Shipper and Receiver Lead

The Shipping Lead is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all daily shipping operations within the facility, ensuring the accurate, timely, and efficient dispatch of outbound materials and products. This role also provides leadership to the shipping team, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, and serves as the primary liaison between the shipping department, carriers, and other internal departments. This position requires proficiency in forklift operation, inventory control systems, and shipping software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily shipping operations, assigning tasks, monitoring workflow, and ensuring adherence to schedules.
  • Ensure all outgoing materials are properly packaged, labeled, and documented in accordance with company and carrier requirements.
  • Oversee and support team members in printing sales receipts, preparing shipping labels, and assembling shipments.
  • Coordinate with carriers (e.g., USPS, FedEx, UPS) to schedule pickups and resolve any shipping issues.
  • Train and mentor new team members on shipping procedures, safety protocols, and equipment use.
  • Maintain shipping area organization and inventory of packing supplies; request restocks as needed.
  • Monitor and report on shipping metrics and inventory discrepancies; collaborate with sales and warehouse teams to maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Perform physical counts and reconcile against system data.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and operational policies, including proper lifting and material handling techniques.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks as required.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for shipping processes and workflow efficiencies.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in shipping/logistics, including 1+ year in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Working knowledge of shipping software and order processing systems.
  • Forklift certified or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency and solid math skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Physical Demands
This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting. Must be able to frequently lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Requires the use of hands, vision (close and distance), depth perception, and ability to operate machinery.
