GENERAL SUMMARY

The Safety Coordinator works to ensure all team members can complete their work safely. This role ensures safety programs and policies are implemented and guides team members to help them understand and follow the programs and policies. The Safety Coordinator will conduct safety observations, investigate incidents, analyze safety risks, coordinate training, and maintain documentation and perform other actions needed to keep the workforce safe. The Safety Coordinator will also work with Human Resources for new team member onboarding and injury investigations as needed.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

  • Identifies safety/health hazards inherent in the organization's operations, and ensures processes and procedures are implemented for protection from those hazards.
  • Works with outside firms to audit safety programs for compliance with company standards, government regulations and unique local conditions.
  • Facilitates and leads the monthly safety committee meetings, maintains safety log and minutes.
  • Helps the workforce follow policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines and to ensure best practices for the overall safety and health of the DeZURIK team members.
  • Assists with investigation of accidents/incidents/hazards, and recommends future preventive measures and works with management to ensure implementation - OSHA/WC.
  • Helps review new products, equipment, and processes for potential hazards and recommends modifications before introduction.
  • Provide feedback to support plant engineering to assist with implementation of engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
  • Organizes and participates in Ergonomic studies to ensure the proper tooling and layout of process.
  • Active member of the Emergency response team, managing emergency procedures and organizing emergency teams during an event.
  • Works with team members and supervisors to identify and correct potential safety and health hazards.
  • Partner with the Director of EHS to ensure compliance and effectiveness of the safety LMS system.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 2-year technical degree or experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably with a union.
  • Experience with, and understanding of, safety operations.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint, working knowledge of LMS systems.
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone.
  • Position requires the ability to see and move throughout the plant/facilities in order to resolve work problems and facilitate processes.
  • Occasional handling of material and components; may have contact with caustic substances in some areas of the plan.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.
