Position Title: Assistant Buyer Full Time (40 hours weekly)

Reports to: Retail Operations Manager

Museum Store Mission Statement: The Museum Store enhances the guest experience by offering excellent customer service and by promoting the Museum's collection by offering merchandise that educates, inspires, and entertains. Profits support MIM and its programs.

Summary: The Museum Store is looking for an energetic assistant buyer to support our buyers in a fast-paced retail environment. The assistant buyer's primary responsibilities include placing reorders with existing vendors, tracking purchase orders, processing receivings and claims, preparing weekly pay packets, and maintaining positive vendor relations.

Other responsibilities include: Assisting with markdowns and vouchering. Assisting with visual merchandising to ensure that product is displayed in the store in a timely manner. Assisting with the organization and maintenance of the store, stockroom, and retail storage. Providing coverage in the store and supervising the team when requested by managers. Assisting with annual inventory and preparing monthly reports.

General Expectations: Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. Follow all policies and procedures. Support inclusive and respectful working relationships that promote a sense of belonging for all team members, volunteer team members, and guests. Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in a similar store or retail operation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed in the job description.

  • Strong computer skills in Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Office. Knowledge of CounterPoint SQL is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail is critical in this role to ensure accuracy in order placement, receiving, pricing, and vendor communications.
  • Previous customer service experience, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of world music and musical instruments a plus!

Other:

  • Work schedule varies and regularly includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Provide sales floor back up to support the team and to ensure the highest level of customer service to MIM guests.

  • The position frequently requires the incumbent to lift 40 pounds and use force to carry, push, pull, and otherwise move objects in the store and stockroom.
  • The position frequently requires the incumbent to bend, stoop, walk, and stand while working the sales floor and performing tasks in the stock room such as inventory.
