Department Summary The UCLA Police Department is a leader in providing progressive law enforcement services to a culturally diverse urban campus and its surrounding community. We are dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for teaching, research and public service. We do this through patrol, rapid response to calls for service, investigations, education and implementation of preventative strategies. Our work, grounded in a community policing philosophy, utilizes campus partnerships as the most effective approach for insuring a safe campus. Position Summary Public Safety Aide is a high visibility, primarily outdoor patrol position on the UCLA campus. PSAs provide uniformed bike patrol of the UCLA campus as visible security deterrents to crime, and assist UCPD Police Officers in many of their functions. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications* 2 years of recent work experience involving heavy public contact/customer service. Public contact experience should include assisting and providing information to a variety of individuals. (Required) Ability to complete a bicycle training course and be able to ride a bicycle as needed. (Required) Proficiency in general office, productivity, and computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook). (Required) Skill in interacting diplomatically with the public in a high volume, diverse, continuous public contact setting. (Required) Ability to work a varied schedule, including weekends, evenings, holidays, on call, overtime and varying shifts, as required. (Required) Ability to assess a problematic or emergency situation and plan/execute an appropriate solution in a quick manner. (Required) Ability to attend to detail and follow through on all assigned duties and tasks to completion in a proscribed period of time. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Driver's License Current (Required) California Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS) issued Guard Card Within 6 months (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation. Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment. Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired. Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination. COVID and Flu Vaccinations: The position is subject to providing evidence of inoculation. Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record. CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse". Clery Act: The position is a designated CSA (Campus Security Authority) under Clery Act requirements.
