Job Summary

The President and Chief Health Plan Officer of Priority Health leads the provider-sponsored health plan, Priority Health, to effectively achieve the mission, vision and provide value to health plan members. In alignment with the System Strategic Plan, the president develops the strategic direction for the plan and implements a comprehensive and diversified portfolio of health and wellness solutions. The president cultivates a culture based on the values of the organization and engages with team members to execute on the strategic plan. The president will also guide the plan's growth and marketing plans, and financial and operating performance. As an integral part of the System, participates and collaborates with the system and its divisions to deliver value. The president is active in shaping legislative policies that benefit the members and organization.

Key Role Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures a culture and environment that attracts, motivates and retains excellent executives and team members. Provides direction and clear expectations to facilitate plan effectiveness and assure accountability. Selects, develops and evaluates direct reports to ensure plan retains the talent to innovate and compete in the market. Manage collaboratively, build the team and provide clear expectations to facilitate organizational effectiveness and assure accountability to the organization and its management at all levels.

  • Works with the Priority Health Board of Directors to realize the mission, vision and strategic plan for Priority Health.

  • Develops and implements annual and long-term plans, strategies and budgets aimed at continuing the Priority Health history of value and quality, keeping administrative costs low and supporting the overall System strategic plan. Establishes key initiatives and metrics, regularly measuring performance and outcomes. Set goals and direction, anticipating and avoiding obstructions and pitfalls.

  • Ensures Priority Health achieves and maintains a competitive position within the health insurance market. Drives communications and marketing necessary to reach and retain members. Reviews operations and makes decisions, as appropriate, on costs, pricing, allocation of resources and related issues. Collaborates with the system and its divisions to develop and execute innovative care models that decrease unnecessary clinical variation, reduce the total cost of care and increase access.

  • Collaborates with leaders in care delivery, the chief operating officer and the chief clinical officer to optimize the advantages of the integrated health system and leverage the synergies across the system for implementing value-based models that improve health for all.

  • Fosters and engages in positive relationships with the executives, physicians, system shared services teams, government officials, board members, community and business leaders. Is an active member of local, state and national boards and committees, including the Michigan Association of Health Plans and Association of community health plans, further developing connections and partnerships.

  • Communicate openly and demonstrate a commitment to listen, understand and take action. Demonstrate political savvy, finding the common ground among often competing interests, personalities and organization entities.

  • Foster an environment open to new ideas to create value for all stakeholders to drive efficiencies through the use of technology and digital capabilities to make services more accessible, efficient and affordable.

  • Strives to set the standard for innovation while continuing to enhance quality, access, affordability and value.

  • Establishes optimal organizational design, structure and processes to effectively manage the complexities of a large health plan as part of an integrated health system while supporting growth and strategy execution.

  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor's Degree

  • Preferred Master's Degree

  • 15 years of relevant experience leadership experience. Required.

  • Outstanding communication skills for highly visible and significant relationships in and outside the organization.

  • Experience serving on and working with Board of Directors.

  • Exceptional analytical skills.

  • Strategic planning abilities.

  • Financial management skills.

  • Customer / community relations skills.

  • Ability to take calculated risks.

  • Ability to stimulate new ideas within the organization.
