The Technical Lead - Data Engineering is responsible for designing, architecting, and building the data framework that powers the company. They collaborate with tech leads to develop scalable, high-quality solutions within budget and organizational constraints. This role ensures data integrity and facilitates data integration for internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Duties



  • Communicates with business users to drive business value and efficiently leverage the use of data including optimization and indexing
  • Attends and provides input to technical solutions in architecture meetings determining project scope, tasks, timeframe and resources to provide project estimates
  • Designs and ensures delivery of automated testing and automated quality analysis processes to validate solutions built
  • Designs, develops, and delivers framework capabilities allowing for faster speed to market
  • Builds and designs data solutions to maximize scalability from a cost, maintenance, and growth perspective.
  • Explains and trains other team members on Data Vaults, Data Modeling, and Data Processing.
  • Documents data lineage and related data movement
  • Ensures continued alignment with DevSecOps, Security, and SSDLC standards and practices
  • Builds automated processes that do not require significant manual intervention


Qualifications



  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to mentor and guide other developers to build team expertise
  • Methodical and logical approach to problem-solving, with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions
  • Proven ability to manage tasks effectively and meet established deadlines
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to build productive relationships with business stakeholders, operations, security teams, and vendors
  • Effective communication skills for translating complex technical concepts into clear, concise information for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Understanding of business applications and adherence to development best practices


Technical Skills



  • Deep technical expertise in lakehouse architecture, including implementation of the medallion strategy
  • Proficient in Data Vault modeling and implementation strategies
  • Extensive experience with Databricks
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, including reading, writing, and query optimization within Databricks environments
  • Expertise in Apache Spark and Spark DataFrames
  • Skilled in Python 3.11 and modern Python architectures (PySpark, Pandas)
  • Experience with data modeling techniques including Snowflake schema and Star schema
  • Hands on experience with Business Intelligence tools, particularly Power BI


Education/Certifications

Bachelor's degree in data science, information technology, software engineering, or similar work experience in a related field

Experience



  • Minimum of 7 years of experience developing, designing, and delivering data solutions


Leadership



  • High level of emotional maturity that can react appropriately in difficult situations
  • Ability to understand your audience and impact or influence a diverse population
  • Excellent communications skills to convey information accurately and at detailed level to provide clarity to management, team members, or customers on topic
  • Interpersonal skills to resolve conflicts among team members
  • Escalate concerns/risks to leadership in a timely and action-oriented manner.
