Position Summary |
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement to include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. Under limited supervision, this position will be responsible for assessing materials for digitization, choosing the best workflow, scanning items, describing them with established metadata standards, performing initial quality control, and uploading to the Center's content management systems. The person in this position will promote the Center's work through blog posts and conferences. They must be able to work independently and make appropriate judgements while working with partner materials. Occasional solo travel for partner site visits may be required. This is a time-limited position, contingent upon the availability of funds. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Experience scanning special collections materials like manuscripts, photographs, bound materials.
- Experience creating metadata for special collections materials.
- Experience with digital library content management systems.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience following established documentation.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal and organizational skills. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Direct work experience with digitization and following established metadata standards, particularly in an archive, library, or museum setting.
- Experience working at or closely with small or mid-sized cultural heritage institutions.
- Familiarity with North Carolina history and culture. |
