About The Position

The Environmental Scientist/Engineer position is responsible for leading a variety of environmental compliance services and support for Ameren Corporation including the Ameren Illinois, Ameren Missouri, Transmission, and Ameren Services companies. The position provides technical guidance, performs project reviews, evaluates applicable environmental standards and regulations, and interfaces with internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead a variety of environmental subject areas including waste management, hazardous materials management, property assessments, site remediation, air quality, water quality, groundwater monitoring.

  • Through leadership and collaboration, provide project review and coordination for permitting and/or regulatory approvals required by various regulatory authorities such as EPA, USACE, USFWS, IEPA, IDNR, MDNR or other federal or state agencies.

  • Represent the company in agency and stakeholder interactions regarding environmental compliance.

  • Develop, prepare and deliver training and guidance to co-workers and contractors regarding environmental compliance.

  • Conduct environmental site assessments, including collection of soil, water, and waste samples.

  • Review, assess, communicate, and apply pertinent environmental regulations.

  • Conduct facility environmental compliance reviews, report findings, and develop corrective actions, as needed, to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Develop and prepare management and regulatory compliance reports as required.

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of environmental regulatory programs and issues typically associated with utility construction and operation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental science or applicable engineering, science, or related field from an accredited college or university required. Will consider other degrees with relevant environmental experience, specifically in environmental due diligence, waste management, utility operations, or environmental regulations.

  • 5 or more years of environmental experience required.

  • Experience with RCRA, TSCA, and PHMSA regulations is a plus.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Good analytical, organizational, communication, and human relations skills required.

  • Must be able to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Must be able to handle multiple assignments with varying completion dates and effectively prioritize.

  • Must be able to adapt to varying job assignments depending on company needs.

  • Must be willing to learn new technologies, procedures, changing regulations, and maintain expertise in a variety of environmental subject areas.

  • Travel between Ameren facilities is required.

  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Additional Information:

The Environmental Scientist/Engineer is a hybrid role. Hybrid employees are required to regularly come into their designated facility or field location a minimum of 3 days per week.

Ameren's selection process includes a series of interviews and may include a leadership assessment process. Specific details will be provided to qualified candidates.

Compensation Range:

$86,400.00 - $133,900.00

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
