Summary of Job Duties:The Project Archivist employs archival standards and best practices to survey, arrange, describe and preserve this collection. The Project Archivist is responsible for creating a Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), compliant finding aid for this collection in ArchivEra.The Paul DeMain papers to be processed consist of more than 44 cubic feet of manuscripts and other papers to be arranged in logical series, placed in acid-free folders, and housed in acid-free archival boxes. Once processed, the archivist will create a finding aid, which will be posted on the Sequoyah National Research Center catalog and thus made available for public use. The papers deal with major events in Indian Country during the period 1975 to 2019, when DeMain retired. This position is full-time provisional (grant funded) position, and renewal is contingent upon continued grant funding and satisfactory job performance. This position is governed by state andfederal laws and agency/instutional policy. Qualifications: REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution with emphasis in archival studies;

  • At least one year of professional archival processing experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with ArchivEra;

  • Demonstrated experience processing a large collection;

  • Demonstrated work experience in American Indian/Alaska Native archives and special collections.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Surveys Paul DeMain Papers and plans a processing strategy with SNRC Archivist;

  • Arranges, describes, preserves, and makes accessible Paul DeMain Papers according to archival standards and best practices;

  • Creates catalog records and detailed finding aid for collection using ArchivEra according to Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated experience working with manuscripts, photographs, and other material in a special collections and archives environment;

  • Knowledge of and experience with preservation standards and procedures for archival materials;

  • Superior written and oral communication skills;

  • Ability to work independently and with others.
