WHAT WILL YOU DO:

The Director of External Communications, reporting to the Sr. Director of Communications, plays a pivotal role in shaping and communicating the vision, mission, and values of our institution within the higher education landscape. This leadership position is responsible for creating and implementing comprehensive external communication strategies that engage various stakeholders, including prospective students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the broader community. By leveraging traditional media, social media, and digital platforms, the Director will enhance the institution's visibility and reputation, ensuring that our narratives resonate with diverse audiences. A successful candidate will work closely with senior management and various departments to craft compelling messages that highlight academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagement activities. This position will also lead a team of communication professionals, fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes innovative approaches to storytelling and brand management. As a representative of the institution, the Director will cultivate relationships with media, government agencies, and community organizations to advance the institution's interests, mission, and goals. The Director will also analyze communication efforts' effectiveness, making data-driven adjustments to strategies to enhance engagement and expand our reach in the competitive landscape of higher education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Develop and execute a cohesive external communication strategy that aligns with the institution's mission and goals.

  • Partners with the campus communicators on content calendar.

  • Oversee the creation of communication materials including press releases, newsletters

  • Oversee speech writing and Presidential communications

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets to ensure positive coverage of the institution and its initiatives.

  • Lead crisis communication efforts with key stakeholders, preparing timely and effective messaging in response to emerging issues or challenges.

  • Manage the external communications team, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality output and professional development.

  • Analyze communication strategies' effectiveness and provide recommendations for improvement based on data and feedback.

  • Understanding of working with multiple stakeholders to gain buy in and approval.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field and six years of related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience working in higher education
