OVERVIEW

The Area League Coordinator (ALC) coordinates USTA League Tennis activities within the USTA MS Delaware District. The person in this position works to increase participation in league tennis by servicing current leagues while promoting and developing other various league programs. This individual should establish strong relationships within the local community with tennis and non-tennis facilities, organizations, and volunteers, while assisting other league coordinators as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Recruit captains and communicate with continuing captains.

  • Collaboratively prepare district calendars; coordinate with section timelines and mandates.

  • Coordinate local leagues including scheduling of leagues.

  • Work with the Manager of Adult Leagues to define volunteer structure within the district.

  • Conduct captains' meetings.

  • Serve as Tournament Director for assigned district championships.

  • Work with facility personnel to show the benefits of league tennis to their facility and as necessary, provide awareness, education, marketing materials and support.

  • Actively work with the Manager of Adult Competition to promote tennis opportunities for participants in the 18-39 age range.

  • Work with Marketing and Communications department on local marketing ideas and strategies in order to increase the number of new players and to increase retention of current players.

  • Represent USTA MS by attending and/or assisting in workshops, events or meetings.

  • Submit updated goals and activity reports to the Manager of Adult Leagues as required.

  • Work with other Coordinators on district activities such as district championships.

  • Serve as a liaison to the assigned district council and Tennis Service Representative.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent organizational, administrative and management skills required.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.

  • Customer service skills and the ability to work with and oversee volunteers.

  • Commitment to fostering inclusion and respect for individuals from different backgrounds, identities and experiences.

  • Computer experience, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, and Google.

  • High energy and enthusiasm.

  • Knowledge of the USTA MS league program, and tennis background preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of the USTA MS programming team.

  • College degree preferred but not required.

  • Delaware residency or within a reasonable commute to Delaware preferred but not required.
