General Description
Performs skilled work and supervision in the operation of large vehicles.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires two (2) years experience operating heavy equipment related to area of assignment or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Must secure and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (Class B) for duration of appointment.
Must secure and maintain for the duration of employment - Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) access with Customs and Border Protection Seal.
All Aviation Maintenance Division employees must be able to perform rotational shift work and/or overtime (holidays, weekends and emergencies) in support of operational needs in a twenty-four (24) hour per day/seven (7) days per week operation and in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement, if applicable.
Per the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part 1542, all airport employees must undergo a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA) in order to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge, as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

- 2+ years of Part 139 Inspection/Repair Experience

- 2+ years of Maximo Application Suite (MAS) Experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. Ability to operate a small truck or van, truck/trailer combination, forklift, bucket truck, dump truck, Crosswind street sweepers, 524 Wheel Loader (front loader) for working in public area, Power Washing Truck (rubber removal and paint removal), a heavy duty lawn mower, tools, materials and equipment common to lawn and shrub maintenance. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of smaller dump and stake body trucks, water carriers, tractors, wreckers and similar vehicles used in varied operations throughout the County.
Acts as lead operator on-site supervising labor crew as needed (including Equipment Operators and Maintenance Workers) with assigned tasks or acts as sub-foreman on landscape or construction jobs. Provide instruction and/or training to Equipment Operators on the use of various equipment as needed.
Transports construction equipment using a lowbed semi-trailer; operates tractor-trailer and tandem trucks in local hauling tasks; loads and unloads vehicles as required; operates heavy duty road roller in resurfacing and roadway construction; operates front-end loader or small tractor rigged with hydraulic loading lift and back hoe digging shovel; operates tractor and "bush hog" for mowing roadway shoulders and removing vegetation from drainage ditches; operates sweeper truck for cleaning roadways; may operate smaller earth moving equipment such as small bulldozers and bobcats. ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLILITES: Work requires some manipulative skill and dexterity while driving in areas under construction and in adverse weather conditions.
Performs operator pre-checks on equipment; checks lubricants, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems; makes necessary minor adjustments and reports malfunctions to supervisor.
Performs a variety of equipment checks and minor maintenance in order to comply with Federal, State, and County regulations, ensure equipment is in safe operating condition, and maximize service life of equipment.
Hauls a variety of materials and equipment to/from the job site in order to facilitate completing assigned project.
Piles disposed materials in order to prevent contamination, maximize space utilization, prevent fires, and facilitate safe landfill operation.
Maintains a variety of landscape and special habitat areas in order to endure safety of the public and maintain appropriate appearance of parks and other public areas.
Checks for hazardous materials in order to to ensure they are not mixed with other materials and contaminate the site.
Maintains a variety of asphalt street/road surfaces in order to maintain streets and roads in safe driving condition.
Knowledge of safe driving techniques and the occupational hazards of motorized equipment operation.
Ability to operate the assigned vehicle in the prescribed manner as well as in assigned location at times being on the airfield.
Ability to detect improper functioning mechanical systems on the assigned vehicle.
Ability to make minor adjustments and to do minor servicing on automotive equipment.
Repetitive walking, bending, squatting crouching, stooping, reaching and stretching above and below shoulder level.
Must be able to use/climb a ladder.
Heavy manual work lifting and moving stock weighing up to 50lbs.
Adheres to local, state and federal regulatory requirements as applicable to area of assignment.
Performs related work as assigned. All Aviation Department employees must possess the ability to interact courteously with the public, Airport vendors, contractors and fellow employees to maintain a professional work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.
Must possess the ability to attend work in a full-time, timely, regular and predictable manner.
Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks with interruptions, under all types of weather and under the stress of deadlines and occasionally under the stress of emergency situations.
Aviation Department Facilities/Maintenance Division Staff are all essential positions. At any given time, staff may be required to be on the Airfield, in the Terminals, or in a work environment which conditions may expose them to weather, humid conditions; smoke, fumes or dust; tight or confined spaces; hazardous materials; or shaking, rocking and or vibrating equipment, loud noise, stairs and ramps, and large moving equipment.
