SUMMARY:

Lundbeck Seattle's Center of Excellence is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Development Associate I to join the newly created Lab Operations team. The successful candidate will support all lab activities for the Upstream, Downstream, Analytics, and Formulation Development labs. Activities include ordering lab supplies, inventory management, glass-wash, autoclave operation, equipment maintenance and general buffer prep with emphasis on Upstream Process Development activities. Upstream daily responsibilities include cell culture passaging, bioreactor set-up, sampling, and tear down. This position requires excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Flexibility to support some weekend, evening, and holiday work is a must.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Key Cross Lab Responsibilities:



  • Glass-wash, autoclave operation
  • Daily rounds (pipette restocking, water bath maintenance, 70% ethanol bottle restock)
  • Manage Center of Excellence inventory of reagents, chemicals, and consumables including ordering and receiving using Lundbeck procurement system
  • Process biohazardous waste for pick-up
  • Media and buffer preparation
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of equipment as required (pH meter calibrations, cell counter quality control readings etc.)



Key Upstream Specific Responsibilities:



  • Hands-on help in planning and execution of experiments
  • Growth and expansion of shake flasks and plates
  • Operation and set up of culture bags and bioreactors from 200 mL to 200 L scale
  • Daily sampling and required feeding, including weekend work
  • Post-run clean up and tear down
  • Maintenance of equipment
  • Maintain lab supplies
  • Understanding experimental goals and assisting in laboratory experiments for bioprocess development, optimization, and characterization
  • Timely and error-free completion of data entry in electronic lab notebooks (Benchling)
  • Flexible schedule for daily reactor and shake-flask sampling activities, including weekend, evening, and holiday work
  • Coordinate within the Upstream Development team and cross-functionally with the Downstream Process Development, Analytics and Formulation Development/Drug Product groups to establish seamless workflows and meet production and development timelines
  • Share experimental analyses through written reports and group presentations
  • Maintain an operational and safe working environment in accordance with corporate standards
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in a lab environment

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:



  • B.S. degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university
  • Ability to meet deadlines while adapting to changing priorities
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as group needs demand
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize effectively to deliver results within reasonably established timelines
  • Proficiency with various MS Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required



PREFERRED SKILLS:



  • Proven ability to identify and troubleshoot critical issues associated with mammalian cell culture
  • Proficiency with JMP statistical software
  • Experience with electronic lab notebooks such as Benchling



TRAVEL



  • Domestic and international travel up to 10% may be required


The range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of Washington, if selected for this role, and may vary based on various factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. Salary Pay Rate $32.00 - $37.00 per hour and eligibility for a 8% bonus target based on company and individual performance, and eligibility to participate in the company's long-term incentive plan.
