As a Senior Data & AI Governance Specialist with American Family Insurance you will establish AI Governance practices which guide the responsible development and use of AI within and by American Family Insurance. Partner with stakeholders to design and implement systems that ensure trust and safety by embedding transparency, accountability, security, fairness, and human-centricity throughout the entire AI system lifecycle while also mitigating risk in the application of AI systems.
You will report to the Director, Data & AI Governance.

Position Compensation Range:

$86,000.00 - $142,000.00

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.

Primary Accountabilities


  • Implement and mature AI Governance program relating to framework scope, roles and responsibilities, documentation, fairness, third-party AI, education, and compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to AI Policy & Standards by creating and enforcing technical and process controls governing AI use and development.
  • Update AI Governance guidelines to reflect changes to relevant laws and regulations.
  • Help respond to external requests for information on model development and use.
  • Evaluate and vet requests for third-parties who provide AI.
  • Socialize AI Governance to team members to lead best practices and AI Governance adoption.
  • Mature and maintain a training program to ensure employees remain up-to-date and proficient with responsible AI practices and requirements.
  • Participate in peer review for AI models and systems.
  • Work with Corporate Strategy to connect AI Governance with broader Sustainable Business Framework.


Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements


  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with AI development techniques, methodologies, and technologies.
  • Ability to lead and influence others in addressing complex problems
  • Expertise and understanding of AI governance as a discipline as well as AI regulatory landscape
  • Advanced skills and ability in communicating clearly and concisely (including with leadership) and working collaboratively across multiple subject areas and technical business teams.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of insurance concepts.

In this hybrid role you are expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month out of either the Madison, WI or Boston, MA offices.
