If so, the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) Radiation Protection (RP) Organization is seeking an Engineering Program Project Lead (EPPL) for Radiological Operations within Department 4616, Radiological Operations II, is a key leadership position within the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) corporate Radiation Protection Organization (04610). The 04616 EPPL will lead a team(s) of Health Physicists and Radiological Control Technologists (RCTs) in providing essential day-to-day support services to all SNL Line organizations and facilities engaged in radiological work, as well as the implementation of the SNL corporate occupational Radiation Protection Program in accordance with DOE 10 CFR 835, 10 CFR 830, and associated DOE Orders and directives. RO2 will also extend their support to the broader RP Program. In this role, the EPPL will provide radiological support to line organizations as needed, which includes but is not limited to:
Conducting hazard analyses and developing appropriate controls for proposed radiological activities.
The 04616 EPPL will implement 10 CFR 835 and other DOE regulatory drivers, leveraging engineering and technical expertise to ensure safe mission execution and performance. This position is responsible for developing projects and systems that meet regulatory requirements while identifying necessary work products. The 04616 EPPL will define project initiatives, objectives, deliverables, budgets, and schedules; acquire and manage resources for planning, tracking, and executing projects from initiation to closeout; monitor cost, schedule, and performance; and integrate systems engineering, configuration management, risk management, and quality standards into all projects. Key Responsibilities:
Issue/Event Reporting Assistance: Assist the Line with issue/event reports, ensuring thorough documentation and follow-up.
Work is fast-paced, and assignments may change frequently in response to customer and RP organization needs. Some travel may be required. Activities may include working with or in the presence of hazardous materials. Potential hazards include, but are not limited to, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, safety hazards, biological hazards, noise, and ergonomic hazards. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite at SNL in Albuquerque, NM. Salary Range: $114,000 - $227,500 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. Qualifications We Desire: Masters degree in health physics, Radiological Sciences, Nuclear Engineering, or closely related appropriate physical science and extensive operational health physics work experience.
About Our Team: The Radiation Protection Organization (Group 4610) provides radiation protection services to Sandia line organizations and is the steward of the corporate Radiation Protection Program. Services provided include translation of DOE directives and federal regulations into SNL-specific requirements and guidance; development of tools to assist in the identification and control of hazards associated with the use of radioactive materials and radiation-generating devices; providing trained and qualified personnel to support radiological activities and operations throughout the Laboratories; and workplace sampling and monitoring services to ensure effectiveness of radiological controls. The Organization works with the corporate Radiation Protection Safety Committee to establish goals, measure performance, and perform assessments to collect data to support continuous improvement in the safe performance of radiological operations.
