Responsibilities

Sabre Systems is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator (Unix/Linux) to join our team in support of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) in Dahlgren, VA. This role plays a critical part in NSWCDD's strategic initiative to modernize, optimize, and simplify its IT infrastructure while advancing IT Service Management (ITSM) practices to deliver measurable, mission-focused outcomes. This initiative not only includes the continued operation and maintenance of the existing IT environment but also emphasizes digital transformation, information management, infrastructure engineering, and the implementation of modern development, deployment, and automation technologies. The selected candidate will be essential to enhancing IT service delivery and ensuring efficient, customer-focused support in a dynamic and evolving environment. *This position is contingent upon contract award and/or customer approval.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administer and maintain enterprise-level UNIX/Linux systems in support of secure, mission-critical operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and system-level issues on Linux platforms.
  • Apply system updates, patches, kernel upgrades, and security fixes to ensure compliance with Information Assurance standards.
  • Enforce system hardening and security controls in alignment with DISA STIGs and DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Perform user and group management, permissions configuration, and system monitoring using command-line tools.
  • Conduct vulnerability scans and assist in remediation efforts using tools such as ACAS.
  • Provide technical support to end-users for Linux-related issues and escalate complex problems as needed.
  • Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to maintain system integrity and support accreditation efforts.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and support activities in accordance with organizational standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Six (6) years of professional experience in Unix and/or Linux system administration of networks and software systems.
  • Experience in system backup and recovery; basic software management; security management and library management; installation and configuration of hardware; operational systems and COTS software; operating computer systems in different operating environments; and sizing, performance, tuning, hardware/software/network trouble shooting and resource allocation.
  • Qualified experience in different network protocols including TCP/IP and major network security tools such as: firewalls, knowledge of computing and networking vulnerabilities, attach methods and latest detection methods.
  • Must be available to work onsite in Dahlgren, VA daily

Clearance & Certification Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret clearance or higher; role is classified as IT Level 1 and requires a Tier 5 (T5) background investigation, Top Secret preferred
  • Must meet DoD 8570 IAT Level III certification requirements (e.g., CISSP, CASP+, or CISA); OR must qualify under the DoD Cyber Workforce Framework as a System Administrator with Advanced-level proficiency.

Compensation

Senior Level: At Sabre Systems, LLC, compensation is based on factors such as location, qualifications, experience, and contract-specific requirements. The general salary range for this position is $70,000-$200,000; however, final compensation will be determined by individual qualifications and applicable contract terms.
