The opportunity

The Student Support and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for supporting roughly 100-120 high school students in maintaining a safe and productive community. The coordinator will design and implement proactive and positive social-emotional and behavioral learning strategies and establish clear and effective routines and procedures for in-person programming and remote communication. The coordinator meets with students as needed to address social, emotional, and behavioral concerns and growth and to collaboratively establish an action plan for student development. The Student Support and Wellness Coordinator also contacts student families when warranted, building and fostering relationships by keeping parents and guardians in the loop around their child's overall performance at Breakthrough.

  • This is a part-time position of up to 10 hours per week (typically 3-6 hours)
  • This includes working 1 Saturday per month.
  • Hours are flexible and most work can be completed remotely.
  • The main office and location is SNHU, 2500 North River Road, Manchester, NH

What you'll do:

  • Support Advisors and Coaches in developing individualized action plans for success as student-related social, emotional, and behavioral issues and concerns arise

  • Facilitate training for Advisors and Coaches on student behavioral and social-emotional learning policies, proactive techniques to promote student development in these areas, and the role of the Student Support and Wellness Coordinator.

  • Serve as a point of contact to provide timely support for student concerns and questions focused on social, emotional, and behavioral growth

  • Observe and evaluate student and advisor interactions during Breakthrough programming to provide resources and support as needed

  • Participate in the organization and execution of Breakthrough Family Night and Parent Conferences, with staff and the Director

  • Review student portfolios monthly in accordance with supporting a successful and productive learning community that values high-expectations, advocacy, perseverance, leadership, and collaboration

  • Meet with the Director every other week to discuss current action-plans, student updates, and other needs that arise

  • Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential functions of this role

What we're looking for:

  • Years of experience: 3+ Years of experience working with high school students

  • Degree(s): Bachelor's in Sociology, Psychology, Counseling or a related field

  • Equivalent of experience in lieu of degree acceptable: Yes

  • Specialized knowledge: Understanding the challenges facing first-generation and underrepresented students. Understanding adolescent development, particularly that of high school and college students. Understanding effective communication with high school and college students.

  • Skills and Abilities: Must have superior communication and critical-thinking skills. This includes not only the ability to successfully engage students through digital mediums and platforms, but also the ability to critically reflect upon in-person interactions in order to provide specific verbal and written feedback.

  • Other characteristics, such as personal characteristics: Self-motivation, self-regulation, and self-direction are essential. In addition, the individual must be detail-oriented and highly organized.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
