Financial Director | Growth-Focused Leadership Role | Chicago Metro

We're partnering with a well-established and fast-growing transportation company headquartered in the northwest suburbs of Chicago (Lake in the Hills, IL) to identify a Financial Director ready to step into a high-impact leadership role-with a clear path toward CFO.

This is a key role for a finance leader with a strong accounting foundation, experience managing multi-site teams, and a strategic mindset. The ideal candidate is adaptable, growth-oriented, and comfortable in a hands-on, evolving environment. You'll collaborate closely with the executive team to guide financial planning, drive operational efficiency, and help shape the company's long-term strategy.

This role is onsite five days a week and oversees a distributed team of Financial Analysts, a Data Analyst, and the Accounting department. The right candidate will be both strategic and execution-focused-willing to roll up their sleeves and drive financial improvements across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:




  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning in alignment with company goals



  • Oversee timely and accurate financial reporting, variance analysis, and actionable insights for leadership



  • Manage financial risk and develop internal controls and compliance practices



  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency through financial analysis



  • Advise the CEO and leadership team on financial health, capital structure, and strategic direction



  • Lead financial due diligence and integration for potential acquisitions or partnerships



  • Provide mentorship and direction to finance and accounting team members



  • Support the transition from QuickBooks to an internal data-driven financial platform




This is an opportunity for someone eager to grow, contribute to a collaborative and fast-moving environment, and help drive transformation across finance and operations. The company is open to both experienced Financial Directors and rising talent with leadership potential.

We are prioritizing candidates based in the greater Chicago area with experience in transportation or logistics, and a proven track record in financial leadership within asset-based businesses.
