The Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University is seeking a Department Technology Manager who plays a critical role in supporting the technological infrastructure of the Computer Information Systems (CIS) department, which is unique within the Robinson College of Business due to its strong reliance on information technology for both course delivery and research. This role ensures the seamless operation of IT resources, supports faculty and students, and drives innovation in cloud computing, virtualization, and research technologies. over 1,750 students and requiring specialized technical expertise to manage real and virtual environments, faculty research tools, and IT-intensive coursework.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Department Technology Manager will transition to a modern, cloud-based infrastructure.
This position will have a dotted line relationship with RCB College Technology Services. The Department Technology Manager will collaborate closely with the central College of Business support team to ensure alignment of technological initiatives and support services. This collaboration will involve regular communication and coordination to leverage shared resources,
expertise, and best practices, especially with regard to enterprise computing operations. This position will also provide backup during slower CIS operation times, or as needed during projects or other times of need for the College. The goal is to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of technology support across the Robinson College of Business while meeting the
unique needs of the CIS department.

On a day-to-day basis, the Department Technology Manager will be responsible for the following:

* Installations support, documentation, and account creation are required for an average of 1400 students for both Fall and Spring semesters.

* Faculty need specialized software and hardware (e.g., for big data analytics) to support their research, PhD students, IT support for teaching, research, and desktop support.

* A multi-purpose lab requires hardware and software support, and assistance to students managing lab assistants.

* Virtual server farm management and upgrades.

* Support for IT-intensive courses

* Drive the transformation from a traditional hosting environment to a cloud-based infrastructure.

* Hosting applications for instructional and research activities on the public cloud.

  • Optional Retirement Plan -- ORP is a 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan. Employees contribute 6%, and USG contributes 9.24% to the plan. Employees are immediately vested.
  • Teacher Retirement System -- TRS is a Defined Benefit Plan, a traditional public pension plan. Employees contribute 6%, and USG contributes 19.81% to the plan. Your retirement benefit is calculated by factoring in years of service, final salary, and a 2% multiplier. Employees are vested after 10 years.

Qualifications :

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or Computer Science and five years of related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications

  • Must have expertise with VMware virtualization software and hardware, system storage, network design and security, database and server management, and cloud computing technology services.

IT Infrastructure & Virtualization:

Manage, maintain, and upgrade real and virtual machines, ensuring reliable operation for coursework and research.

Oversee DreamSpark (Microsoft Azure for Education) and VMware installations, including support, documentation, and student account creation.

Administer and optimize the virtual server farm, ensuring performance, security, and scalability.

Lead the department's transition from traditional hosting to a cloud-based infrastructure, integrating public cloud platforms for instructional and research purposes.

Faculty & Student Support:

Provide specialized software and hardware support for faculty research, including tools for big data analytics, cybersecurity, and AI/ML applications.

Offer technical support for PhD students, covering teaching, research, and desktop needs.

Manage and maintain the multi-purpose lab, assisting students with hardware and software issues.

Virtualization & Cloud Technologies: Proficiency in VMware virtualization software, including vSphere, ESXi, and related tools for managing virtual environments. Experience in cloud computing services (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) for hosting, scaling, and securing applications.

System Storage & Database Management: Expertise in storage solutions (SAN, NAS, cloud-based storage) and managing database systems (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL) within virtualized and cloud environments.

Network Design & Security: Strong knowledge of network architecture, security protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion prevention systems to ensure secure and efficient operations.

Server & Infrastructure Management: Experience managing Windows and Linux servers, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and security hardening.
