Overview: Egan Company is seeking candidates for a Mechanical Estimator position located in Champlin, MN. The Estimator is responsible for the timely, accurate, and consistent estimates of Mechanical Projects to include Plumbing, HVAC Piping, HVAC Ductwork, Process Piping, Equipment & Subcontractors, etc... for the Mechanical Group. Responsibilities:
- Develop estimates for plan & spec, design build, and design assist projects based on providing bidding documents.
- Develop and communicate the trade-specific scope of work for the project.
- Review all architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and specialty systems drawings
- Review all specifications & front end documents as it relates to the project bidding requirements.
- Write a scope of work letter describing all assumptions, clarifications, & exclusions necessary.
- Compile a list of necessary subcontractors and send out request for bids.
- Develop subcontractor scopes.
- Communicate RFP, scope, and coordination items.
- Compile a list of required materials and equipment and send out request for quotations.
- Attend pre-bid conferences and walkthroughs. Attend regular active job site visits.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs, price, and labor on all items Plumbing, Piping, and Sheet Metal.
- Enter summary data into the Egan recap spreadsheet.
- Run comparative reports on alternative materials.
- Provide Value Engineering Alternatives
- Assist Project Managers in Change Order Estimates as needed.
- Assist Project Managers in Project Turnover through Project Completion on as needed basis.
- Assist in the development of budget estimates; from high level cost per sqft foot, detailed unitary budgets, to quantitative takeoffs.
- Review project schedule and phasing requirements.

Position Requirements:
- Required: Minimum of Two-year associates degree or applicable vocational-technical certificate or previous field experience in the mechanical trades.
- Preferred: Bachelor Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, or Related Construction or Mechanical Degree.
- Preferred: Minimum of five years of estimating experience in mechanical industry, with specific experience of Estimating HVAC Ductwork Systems.
Qualifications:
- Experience with Computerized Estimating Software (On-Screen Takeoff), including prior experience with AutoDesk Fabrication ESTmep.
- Ability to read and interpret Project Drawings, Specifications, & Front End Documents.
- Working knowledge of codes in the mechanical discipline. i.e MN Plumbing Code, MN Mechanical & Fuel Gas Code, MN Energy Code, etc...
- Proficient in the use of standard office computer programs such as Microsoft Word & Excel, Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides), PDF File Editing Programs (BlueBeam)
- Strong organizational skills to deal with competing customer needs and handling of multiple bid/proposals at a given time.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills. Ability to communicate with others in English sufficiently to understand and be easily understood.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide sufficiently to perform standard mathematical calculations.
- Ability to foresee events and anticipate changes in conditions and operations to the greatest extent possible and reacts to these appropriately.
- Must be able to function on a fast-paced team and Effectively work with short term deadlines and schedules.
- Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record.
Working Conditions:
- Performance of duties will be in an office setting, with potential for customer visits, job walkthroughs, and jobsite visits as needed.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Exposure to loud noise, dirt, and exposure to elements when site visits are required.
- Climbing of ladders/stairs, uneven ground, bending, kneeling, and twisting are to be expected on job walkthroughs and job sites.
- Option to have a Hybrid work schedule after 6 months of employment, based on workload and performance.
