Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Small Business Administration (SBA) Lender to build/expand our SBA program. The SBA Lender will be responsible for originating, screening against credit risk appetite requirements, and managing loans for small businesses. This role involves building relationships with prospective borrowers, understanding their financial needs, and guiding them through the loan application process, specifically focusing on SBA loan programs. The role also includes working closely with retail partners on SBA and small business opportunities.

This role requires extensive experience and in-depth understanding of the SBA Standard Operating Procedures, compliance guidelines and requires a lending and credit background including loan portfolio management, commercial lending and business development skills.

This role reports to: EVP, Head of Retail Banking

We have a flexible work schedule where employees can work from home one day a week.

Essential duties and responsibilities:



  • Loan Origination: Identify and cultivate relationships with small business owners seeking financing. Actively market SBA loan products and services to potential customers.
  • Underwriting: Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and business plans to evaluate loan applications. Assess risk and ensure compliance with SBA and MCB lending requirements.
  • Customer Guidance: Provide expert consultation to borrowers throughout the loan application process. Assist clients in gathering necessary documentation and understanding loan terms. Travel to business owner properties/locations for meetings and perform walk through inspections of commercial buildings and construction areas.
  • Portfolio Management: Acquire new and maintain relationships with existing borrowers. Provide support and guidance during the life of the loan to ensure repayment and client satisfaction.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and retail, including credit and compliance, to ensure timely processing of loan applications. Partner with CRA to support business initiatives. Collaborate with external partners, such as local business development organizations.
  • Market Analysis: Stay informed about market trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes affecting small businesses and financing options.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on lending activities, portfolio performance, and market trends. Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with company policies.
  • Policies and Controls: Create, implement and recommend approval of lending and operating policies, processes, controls for SBA loan origination and portfolio management. Adhere to internal and external audit and regulatory requirements. Keep abreast of regulations and legislation, to sustain compliance with on all SBA loans.
  • Strives to achieve prudent lending goals utilizing the Bank's underwriting policy and guidelines acting as a responsible steward for the Bank.


Required knowledge, skills and experience:



  • 10+ years of SBA lending experience is required to be considered for this position
  • Credit Trained
  • BA or BS Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field is required
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial statements and legal documents
  • Strong financial analytical and underwriting skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to lead the SBA function to meet production standards and portfolio management
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Potential Salary: $165,000 - $185,000 annually

This salary range reflects base wages and does not include benefits, bonus, or incentive pay. Salary bands are purposefully wide ranging to encompass the different factors considered in determining where a candidate falls in the range, including but not limited to, seniority, performance, experience, education, and any other legitimate, non-discriminatory factor permitted by law. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed here.
