The Role:

As the COO/CNO, you will lead nursing, ancillary, and support departments, driving hospital operations and ensuring the highest quality patient care. Collaborate with operational leaders and medical staff to implement strategic plans, recruit and retain top talent, and spearhead initiatives for quality and patient satisfaction. Work closely with the CEO to develop strategic growth initiatives that align with regional and system-wide goals, becoming an integral part of the PNMC executive leadership team and actively participating in regional efforts.

What You'll Do:



  • Leadership in Development and Operations: Guide the execution of PNMC's key initiatives and daily operations, ensuring excellence and efficiency.
  • Physician Alignment: Create strong, competitive physician alignment models across the care continuum.
  • Strategic Growth Management: Drive strategic growth, restructuring services to align with the Oregon Region's Triple Aim.
  • Resource Utilization: Identify and leverage resources to support PNMC's growth strategy amidst economic challenges.
  • Expansion Management: Oversee the expansion and remodeling of PNMC facilities, enhancing the environment for excellent patient care.
  • Data Optimization: Optimize information systems, ensuring the availability of accurate data for informed decision-making.
  • Outpatient Growth: Develop effective backfill strategies to support outpatient services expansion.
  • Reputation Management: Uphold PNMC's reputation by ensuring high satisfaction among patients, physicians, and employees.
  • Work Environment: Cultivate an attractive environment to attract and retain skilled staff and physicians.
  • Clinical Program Enhancement: Plan programs with specialists to strengthen clinical offerings.
  • Prioritization: Balance competing priorities effectively.


What You'll Bring:



  • Educational Background: Bachelor's in Nursing and Master's in Healthcare or Business Administration.
  • Experience: Over 10 years of administrative experience in healthcare, including 5+ years in leadership roles such as CNO, Finance, or Operations Director.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Oregon RN License upon hire; National certification in nursing administration or ACHE preferred.
  • Leadership Qualities: Ability to energize teams towards mission-driven goals, integrating values and actions for superior outcomes.
  • Team Development: Skilled in managing diverse and effective teams, fostering continuous improvement and change management.
  • Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication abilities, fostering collaboration and consensus building.
  • Business Acumen: Proficient in hospital operations, finance, facility planning, HR, marketing, quality improvement, and strategic planning.
  • Public Representation: Ability to represent PNMC and Providence Health & Services in public settings.
  • Industry Knowledge: Current understanding of healthcare industry trends, with extensive knowledge of hospital operations and business practices.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information related to patients, staff, and other entities.
  • Adaptability: Display ability to thrive in changing environments and participate constructively in change processes.
  • Technological Proficiency: Competence in using various software, including Microsoft Office suite.

Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.
