Description
Plans, directs, manages, and oversees the activities and operations of the Authority's Bus Maintenance department. Evaluates and schedules bus vehicle maintenance, vehicle cleanliness programs and oversees quality assurance and warranty administration of revenue vehicles to ensure that all Authority bus vehicles are safe and properly maintained according to department and Authority goals and objectives. Salary: 184,581.36 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs the work performed by personnel within the Bus Maintenance department. Plans, coordinates and manages the activities of subordinate managers and staff to support and meet the Bus Maintenance department and Authority's goals and objectives. Develops and administers maintenance schedules and programs to meet established objectives relative to the repair, inspection, testing and servicing of the Authority's buses and other automotive vehicles and related equipment. Assumes full management responsibility for all departmental services and activities including maintenance control, quality assurance and warranty administration of revenue vehicles; recommends and administers policies and procedures. Assigns or delegates responsibility for specific projects or functional activities to section supervisory personnel. Manages and is accountable for the cleanliness and maintenance work on the Authority's bus vehicles. Consistently evaluates and monitors the Preventative Maintenance Program to increase the lifespan of vehicles and parts. Develops maintenance programs, policies, goals and objectives, determines inefficiencies and areas for improvement, and implements improved work procedures and methods. Conducts and directs the inspection of bus vehicles, bus shop, and bus garage facilities. Directs the inspection of bus shop and garage facilities to evaluate general appearance and equipment, reviews work methods, and employee work performance. Inspects maintenance projects and programs to review progress, work methods, and compliance with safety regulations. Ensures compliance with applicable bus vehicle safety regulations for efficient and reliable operations. Ensures that safety standards are adhered to at work locations and ensures safe working conditions for employees. Oversees the acquisition and ordering of maintenance supplies and equipment. Authorizes acquisition of high dollar value supplies, tools, and equipment required in bus vehicle maintenance operations. Oversees the procurement of non-revenue equipment and rolling stock. Develops strategic plans for heavy overhaul programs to ensure optimum reliability of the bus vehicle fleet and quality improvement programs to monitor and enhance workmanship and productivity. Plans, develops, recommends and implements operating and capital budgets for Bus Maintenance operations. Oversees the preparation of engineering specifications and details for the maintenance of existing vehicles and the production of new vehicles. Reviews and analyzes investigation reports regarding chronic equipment failures, accident or other incidents, and ensures that appropriate corrective actions are taken. Analyzes utilization, equipment reliability, production efficiency and other measures necessary to prepare annual and long range forecasts of bus vehicle maintenance material and manpower needs for budgeting and other management purposes. Oversees training, safety, and labor relations activities of the Bus Maintenance department. Hires, trains, develops, monitors, and evaluates performance of staff. Reviews and recommends personnel actions for approval. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Business Management, Transportation Planning, Public Administration, or a related field, plus ten (10) years of experience implementing fleet maintenance programs, of which five (5) years is in a supervisory or management role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a transit environment preferred. Experience managing a large union staff preferred. Must possess a valid State of Illinois Driver's License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be capable of walking long distances in inclement weather conditions. Requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time and constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong leadership skills. Detailed knowledge of the principles, policies, and practices of heavy maintenance programs.
Additional Details

Final salary will be determined in part by the qualifications of the selected candidate and may be higher or lower than target.
