Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The American Indian Center ( AIC) is classified as a campus-wide Center under the Provost and Executive Vice-Chancellor, through the office of the Vice-Provost for Academic and Community Engagement. On campus, it provides support for teaching, student engagement and research about American Indians and serves as the University's primary means of outreach and service to North Carolina's Native population, which is the largest in the eastern United States, and to other Native communities across the country. The AIC is an important cultural, intellectual, and social site for Native students, faculty and staff and is a valued voice in campus conversations on diversity, inclusion, and scholarship and ensures that American Indian perspectives continue to enrich the learning environment of the entire University.
Position Summary
Provide needed information and support to Center's development efforts through gifts, grants and other fundraising; Promotion of additional effective community and campus engaged activities; and Assume additional responsibilities as needed which may include aspects of other programs and further development of Center activities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Outstanding administrative skills, including organizational planning and development; Grant writing/managing experience; Ability to independently plan, manage and meet deadlines for multiple projects with minimal supervision and a positive attitude; Ability to work well with Center constituencies including faculty, staff, administrators, students and community representatives; Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as attention to detail and demonstrated experience working as an effective team member; Flexible, adaptable and skilled at balancing multiple tasks and working well under pressure; Established commitment to and experience in American Indian Studies and/or working with American Indian communities and students.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Knowledge of current trends in American Indian Studies and/or tribal community organization; Knowledge of North Carolina communities and/or history.
