Essential Job Duties
This position will work within the University's Research Facilitation Service ( RFS), a joint endeavor on the part of the University Libraries and Office of Information Technology to help researchers access computation and data resources to support their work. The incumbent will develop and deliver training materials around two critical pieces of NC State research infrastructure: OIT's Research Storage service and the Globus data transfer tool. The RFS Graduate Assistant will take an initial, time-limited period to learn both systems and how they can be used for research data management and sharing. They will then develop programmatic and easily repeated training content on using these systems, and will work with the colleges to deliver training to interested labs and departments.

In addition, the position will assist the Director of the Research Facilitation Service with operational duties, including RFS website content management, refining and potentially enhancing or expanding our RCD training materials, and triaging and documenting incoming requests (e.g. handling some of the initial communication with researchers and scheduling consultation sessions).

Minimum Experience/Education
Must be a currently enrolled graduate student in any NC State University department.
Department Required Skills

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on asynchronous, collaborative tasks as well as the ability to work with limited supervision.
  • General familiarity with the use of file systems and an interest in learning more about data transfer tools.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Experience with instruction or customer service is a plus.
  • Interest in research data management and general familiarity with file management best practices.
