The expected hiring range for this position is: $33.50-$43.31.

About the Role: A Senior MetrologistI is sought to join Fermilab's Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) and Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) Project team in Lead, South Dakota. The LBNF/DUNE Project is hosted by Fermilab in Batavia, IL, with participation from universities and laboratories around the world. The project includes construction of a beamline and near detector at Fermilab and a large underground detector at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota. LBNF/DUNE will design and construct one of the largest proposed neutrino experiments in the world over the next several years. Under minimal supervision, the Senior MetrologistI, independently plans, coordinates, and oversees all aspects of complex survey and layout activities on construction projects, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications, codes, and standards.] What your day-to-day as a Senior MetrologistI at Fermilab will look like:
- Calibrates, troubleshoots, and operates state-of-the-art survey equipment in day-to-daysurvey operations, including spatial analyzers to operate laser trackers. Sets upspecialized test equipment for checkout of non-routine assemblies and systems.
- Performs data analysis of acquired field data and composes survey reports anddocumentation for scientific and engineering staff.
- May conduct complex tests requiring improvisation or development of innovativeprocedures or apparatus or requiring recommendation of design details andmodifications as necessary.
- May develop calibration techniques for new or one-of-a-kind equipment and/or set upand design measurement systems for calibration of new and unique instruments.
- Conducts routine inspection and testing to ensure conformance to establishedcalibration standards.
- Acts as a team lead, providing guidance and assistance to less experiencedmetrologists.
- May supervise human resources actions for a team including hiring, promotions,performance reviews, training, disciplinary actions, terminations of employment, teamexits, and other duties as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with allenvironmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- HS degree (or technical certificate orequivalent) plus 7+ years of metrology experience or 5+ years of metrology experience at aDOE laboratory. Experience working in a DOE laboratory environment is preferred
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment of scientists and survey professionals.
- Excellent oral communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write clear andconcise technical documentation.
- May be required to legally operate a government vehicle
