Department Overview



  • Key member of the Enterprise Data Governance function at Northwell, including facilitating the operationalization of governance priorities. playing a leading role in the technical implementation & management of Northwell's enterprise data governance platform, & acting as a subject matter expert [SME] / advisor supporting data domain-level design & architecture activities in accordance with Data Governance principles / policies / best practices.     • Data Discovery Enablement / Catalog Curation This includes developing and implementing initiatives focused on driving data searchability, interpretability, transparency through creating / maintaining an Enterprise Data Catalog + Business Glossary
    • Data Governance Program Development and Implementation: This involves contributing to the creation and execution of data governance programs, policies, procedures, and training materials. Will need to design / build out operational workflows / processes as needed to facilitate governance activities. Makes recommendations, prepares action plans, and assists in implementation; maintains an understanding of projects within data governance office
    • Data Analysis and Reporting: This includes conducting complex analyses on Northwell's data cataloging program, identifying trends, drawing conclusions, and developing reports to inform data governance practices and strategies. The role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data to drive actionable insights. Need to be able to create & lead executive level reports
    • Governance Activity Coordination: Must create / manage timelines, conducts research, and presents deliverables. This requires strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders within different aspects of Northwell's business. The ability to educate & work with individuals across the various data domains on governance initiatives will be crucial.



Preferred Skills



  • 5+ years of experience specifically in data management, data quality, or related field within a healthcare setting. Data governance experience highly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare data, including clinical, financial, and operational data.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Experience with data quality monitoring, metadata management, and master data management.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, DICOM) and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, NYHIP and CTDPA).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive consensus across different departments.
  • Experience with data governance tools and technologies preferred.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform / product suite.


Job Description

Directs, plans, and organizes the logical and physical design and development of the enterprise data architecture in support of the Enterprise Data Repository and Business Intelligence infrastructure. Provides strategic advice and guidance to inform policies on best practices for the integrated data architecture.

Job Responsibility

Provides strategic advice and guidance to inform policies on best practices for the integrated data architecture. Develops data modeling solutions to store and retrieve company information. Analyzes structural requirements for new software and applications including indexing, partitioning options, storage recommendations. Collaborates with stakeholders to understand project requirements and communicate implementation methodology, project milestones and system functionality. Works with source system owners to establish and measure data quality metrics, investigates and resolves source data issues; continuously evaluating and refining transformation rules. Designs and delivers guidelines that allow for a broad base of developers to build content sourced in an ODS adhering to established standards and strategy. Recommends and advocates for data policies, governance structures and control frameworks for ongoing management of data to ensure synchronization, accuracy, completeness and reliability. Provides recommendations for optimization and performance improvements to database design, ETL processes and tuning of applications and hardware for existing and projected needs. Resolves data anomalies and conducts data integration analysis. Participates in the design and enforcement of Data Governance activities such as naming standards, standard database security templates, and data dictionaries. Advises on system level initiatives and provides recommendations to senior executives on matters of significance. Leverages the ability to see the bigger picture from the data architecture point of view to advise on what impact a given database system has, or will have, on enterprise-wide architectural topology. Often operates in ambiguous situations and provides technical guidance to others. Exercises significant latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. Job Qualification

Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

10+ years of relevant experience and 2+ years of leadership / management experience, required.
