POSITION SPECIFICS

The Engineering Science and Mechanics Department (ESM) in the College of Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), University Park, PA invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor, with a track record in scholarship and education, and the promise of expected tenure according to Penn State's tenure criteria. Exceptional candidates are sought for a position covering research in the area of advanced nanoscale device development, with particular interest in integrated circuits based on the platform of 2D materials. Successful candidates will be expected to establish and sustain an outstanding research program and to be effective, inspiring teachers at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The successful candidate will be co-funded by the Materials Research Institute (MRI) at Penn State, which coordinates interdisciplinary materials research across the university. The successful candidate will have opportunities to interact with and benefit from institutional strengths in materials under programs such as the National Science Foundation Materials Innovation Platform 2D Crystal Consortium (https://www.mri.psu.edu/mip) as well as the Center for Nanotechnology Education and Utilization (CNEU) in the ESM Department, among many other opportunities.

Candidates must have a doctorate in materials science, physics, or a related discipline completed before the start date of the position. The ESM Department has 39 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, with average annual research expenditures exceeding $15 million. The undergraduate program in ESM is the Honors program of the College of Engineering. ESM also hosts 130 PhD students. In addition to the CNEU, the department is home to the Center for Neuro-engineering (CNE).
