Reporting to the General Director and CEO, the Chief Philanthropy Officer will serve as a visionary leader and strategic partner to the General Director and CEO, the Executive Leadership Group, and the Board of Directors, responsible for shaping and driving a best-in-class fundraising and philanthropic partnership program. As a key partner to a General Director who loves fundraising and is deeply committed to building long-term, mutually beneficial philanthropic partnerships, the Chief Philanthropy Officer will define and implement a forward-thinking fundraising strategy, steward a personal portfolio of major donors, and cultivate a culture of philanthropy across all levels of the organization. The Chief Philanthropy Officer will ensure the alignment of contributed revenue goals with HGO's artistic and operational priorities. In collaboration with a deeply dedicated and experienced team, and through innovative campaigns, strategic partnerships, and data-informed insights, the Chief Philanthropy Officer will drive growth in individual, corporate, foundation, and government support, while also playing a key role in the success of Houston Grand Opera's upcoming campaign. As a champion for cross-departmental collaboration and organizational development, the Chief Philanthropy Officer will recruit, retain, and inspire high-performing team members and build upon the strong internal and external relationships that power HGO's bold vision for the future. Houston Grand Opera (HGO) enriches its diverse community through the art of opera by creating, curating, exploring, and producing outstanding experiences centered around the human voice. Houston Grand Opera is committed to the future of opera through initiatives that engage new audiences and give artists a stage for their voices to be heard. Through this commitment, HGO has had the honor of commissioning 78 world premieresboth mainstage grand operas and smaller-scale works as well as hosting the American premieres of several major operas, paving the way for new eras of the art form in all genres, time periods, and languages. Houston Grand Opera, located in Houston, Texas, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1955 by Houstonians Elva Lobit, Edward Bing, and Charles Cockrell, with German-born impresario Walter Herbert as its first Conductor and Director. The company now presents six to eight productions per season at the Wortham Theater Center in two performance spaces: the Alice and George Brown Theater and the Roy and Lillie Cullen Theater, with an operating budget of $35-40 million. To nurture emerging artists, Houston Grand Opera founded the Sarah and Ernest Butler Houston Grand Opera Studio in 1977 as one of the earliest comprehensive young artist training programs in the United States. HGO's greatest achievement day-in and day-out is the privilege of bringing world class art to Houston. Through its relentless pursuit to provide for the community, HGO has become a beacon of arts, community, and support for the city of Houston and is the only opera house in the world to receive at least one Emmy, Grammy, and Tony. A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 10 years of fundraising leadership experience is preferred for this position.
