Nurse Practitioner Gastrointestinal Hospitalist

About the Role:

The Nurse Practitioner Gastrointestinal Hospitalist plays a critical role in delivering specialized care to patients with gastrointestinal conditions within a hospital setting. This position involves comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic gastrointestinal diseases, ensuring continuity of care from admission through discharge. The role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. The Nurse Practitioner will also be responsible for patient education, advocating for patient needs, and coordinating follow-up care to optimize health outcomes. Ultimately, this position aims to improve patient quality of life through expert clinical care and effective management of gastrointestinal health issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of practice.
• Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner with a focus on adult-gerontology or family practice.
• Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in gastroenterology or hospitalist care settings.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in Gastroenterology Nursing (CGN) or related specialty certification.
• Experience working in a hospital-based gastrointestinal service line or similar acute care environment.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems commonly used in hospital settings.
• Strong background in patient education and chronic disease management.
• Additional training or coursework in advanced diagnostic procedures such as endoscopy.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough patient assessments including history taking, physical examinations, and review of diagnostic tests related to gastrointestinal conditions.
• Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for patients with a variety of gastrointestinal disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, and gastrointestinal bleeding.
• Collaborate closely with gastroenterologists, surgeons, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and ensure seamless transitions between inpatient and outpatient services.
• Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, medication management, and lifestyle modifications to support recovery and long-term health.
• Document all patient interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately and timely in the electronic medical record system in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
