Key Position Details:

  • Full time position (80 hours every two-week pay period)
  • 8-hour, day / evening shifts - M - F

Job Description:

Performs personal care, observes/collects patient data, documents, and assures patient safety throughout the procedure. Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy under the supervision of a hyperbaric RN and/or physician.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Makes observations, collects health status data, reports and documents findings.
    • Completes measurements including temperature, radial pulse, blood pressure, respirations, weight, intake and output, and check glucose.
    • Prepares the hyperbaric chamber, equipment, and materials as needed for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
    • Reports immediately to the hyperbaric supervisor or physician regarding any observations/health status data that are not within normal limits for the patient or are significantly changed.
    • Reports patient needs/questions to the appropriate nurse.
    • Documents according to documentation guidelines.
  • Performs personal care/interventions.
    • Carries out hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment protocols as prescribed by the hyperbaric certified physician.
    • Observes and records patient's condition and hyperbaric systems during the course of hyperbaric oxygen treatment.
    • Reports unusual occurrences to the hyperbaric supervisor and physician.
    • Completes interventions as needed.
    • Distributes and sets up water, snacks, and assists patients according to diet/intake order for the patient and feeding needs of the patient.
    • Assists patient with grooming and hygiene needs, maintains skin integrity, personal comfort, and population specific needs of the patient. These include: oral hygiene, linen change, bathing, AM/PM and HS care, assistance with bedpan, urinal, commode, catheter, dressing, application of support hose and braces, implements toileting routine as designated in plan of care.
    • Provides assistance with ambulation, transfer, positioning, and ROM according to activity order and needs of the patient.
    • Implements activities of fall prevention plan as specified in plan of care including frequent observation and supervision in the bathroom.
    • Collects and saves specimens.
    • Provides assistance to the nurse for admission, transfer, discharge, and post-mortem care.
    • Notifies hyperbaric supervisor/physician immediately of changes in patient condition.
  • Maintains patient and employee safety.
    • Develops and maintains an environment that is safe for patients, visitors and employees
    • Uses proper transfer and lifting equipment and body mechanics.
    • Reports environmental risks or equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
    • Maintains operation, maintenance, and safety logs and other required documentation.
    • Cleans/disinfects hyperbaric chamber, equipment and gurney as needed in between patients.
    • May function as a Hazardous Waste Handler, including properly identifying, segregating, and disposing of hazardous waste, ensures container integrity, knows emergency response procedures to spills, fires, and evacuation procedures.
  • Ensures medication security and transport.
    • May transport filled prescriptions to the station where patient is located.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Vocational or Technical Training as an Emergency Medical Technician or
  • Associate's or Vocational degree as a Respiratory Therapist

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certified Hyperbaric Technologist - National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric Medical Technology required within 1-1/2 years
  • BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource required

Physical Demands

  • Medium Work*:
  • Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $26.77 to $33.74 per hour The pay described reflects the base hourly pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
