The role - what you'll do Barr is seeking an environmental scientist to join our Seattle, Washington, team. In this hybrid role, you will support the Assessment and Remediation group by writing technical reports, conducting fieldwork, and analyzing environmental data. The ideal candidate for this position is a detail-oriented and motivated individual with a strong interest in environmental data and technology. Field support: collecting environmental samples for field screening and laboratory analysis. Data interpretation: analyzing environmental data. Environmental impact and reporting: writing technical reports.
About the opportunity
Compensation: anticipated range of $60,000-80,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Depending on salary, this position will be classified as either non-exempt (hourly) or exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. Travel expectation: approximately 50 percent of time will be working in the field, with opportunities to work both locally and across the country. Work environment ability to work in locations with rough terrain typical of construction/manufacturing/rural outdoor sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements for the role may include the ability to lift 50 pounds to move equipment and/or samples. About you - required core competencies
Education: bachelor's degree in environmental science/studies/policy, ecology, natural resources management, biology, botany, or a related natural resources field. Experience: environmental consulting or relevant experience including fieldwork and experience with a wide range of field equipment. Technical skills: data management, visualization, and processing, including with statistics in R and python. Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Helpful additional experience (not required)
Experience with state and federal environmental review, regulatory interpretation, and permitting processes. Familiarity with CAD or GIS tools (ArcGIS, Collector, etc.).
