The MU Counseling Center is part of the MU Student Health and Well-Being unit, which includes the Counseling Center, Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Center, Student Health Center, and Wellness Resource Center. The Center is an APA-accredited doctoral internship site and serves a student community representing a wide range of backgrounds. As a Center focused on affirmation and excellence, the staff seek like-minded professionals to join a team engaged in efforts to enhance campus services to better support all students.

Job Description

Essential Functions

The successful candidate will have a "generalist" competence and experience in the treatment of a wide variety of diagnoses and life problems. In addition, MUCC clinicians are encouraged to assume expertise in specific areas of personal interest including a mode of service delivery, clinical issue/need, and/or work with a specific group on campus. While candidates should not exclude themselves from consideration for a position, preference will be given to applicants demonstrating interest in the following areas:

  • Substance use/recovery services
  • Gambling/sports betting and/or other addictions
  • Autism spectrum disorders and/or ADHD
  • Complex anxiety including OCD
  • Eating Disorders/body image

Inquiries and applications are encouraged from professionals from all backgrounds as well as from persons possessing a range of levels of professional experience.

Job Duties Include:

  • Complete initial evaluations to determine appropriate treatment recommendations.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions including brief individual and group therapy/clinical skills classes as well as time limited workshop series to treat a broad range of presenting psychological concerns and diagnoses.
  • Perform crisis and consultation services during regular business hours that require complex clinical decision making as part of a crisis team.
  • Design and implement outreach and prevention programming to students and the broader campus community.
  • Conduct supervision and training for post-doctoral residents, doctoral interns in our APA-accredited doctoral internship, post-MA fellows, and graduate students in training (as allowed by licensure status).
  • Contribute as a member of the MUCC team to the development and implementation of goals, philosophies, policies, and procedures for meeting the psychological needs of the University of Missouri students and cultivating an environment of well-being on campus. Serve on relevant MUCC and/or University committees as requested.

The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written skills; value a multifaceted approach involving linked clinical and training efforts; show a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus partners, and student groups; have a commitment to actively engage in practice with individuals from a variety of backgrounds; interpersonal flexibility with a sense of humor; an awareness of the importance of life balance and a commitment to the importance of the developmental perspective of counseling services.

Shift

The specific start date is negotiable.

40 hours per week.

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate degree in Psychology and licensure (or eligibility to be licensed) as a Psychologist within the State of Missouri.

Preferred Qualifications

A Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology is necessary. Must obtain licensure to practice independently as a Licensed Psychologist (LP) in the state of Missouri within 18 months of hire if joining out of pre-doctoral internship.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience delivering services that are student-centered and grounded in respect for others and an appreciation of individual differences.

Additionally, a minimum of one year of clinical experience working in a college counseling center (this may include practica, internship or post-doctoral experience) is desired.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$80,500 - $110,000 annually
$80,500 annually if needing to qualify for first time licensure
$83,000 - $110,000 annually if already licensed to practice independently in Missouri, depending on experience and other qualifications
