Job Description

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

Work Experience:

  • Experience: 2-3 years of programming experience with PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Rockwell/Allen Bradley controls, including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, FactoryTalk View, Ignition, and VBA scripting.
  • Availability: Willingness to work nonstandard hours as necessary.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and rectify a wide range of controller and electrical problems across multiple platforms.

Principal Area of Responsibility:

This individual will design, develop and oversee all aspects of automated production systems. The position will also be responsible for installation and technical support of controls/automation-based hardware and software.

Specific Duties:

  • Plan, implement, and upgrade controls and automated manufacturing systems.
  • Assume project responsibility to specify, install, and debug logic, controllers, and associated I/O. Complete projects within specified timelines.
  • Confer with users to understand needed changes or modifications to existing programs. Resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements, and inclusion of internal checks and controls.
  • Manage projects for the implementation of new control systems.
  • Collaborate regularly with programmers and database administrators in the I.T. department on integration with existing systems and data collection.
  • Assist maintenance staff regularly with troubleshooting controls, electrical, and other related issues to minimize downtime.
  • Interface regularly with Process Control, Product Engineering, and Manufacturing personnel on all assigned control systems.
  • Maintain and improve manufacturing real-time data acquisition and control systems to increase reliability, accuracy, and speed.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by utilizing good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Document and map processes in multiple areas to understand needs, inefficiencies, and sources of error, improving processes through modifications to existing logic and HMI or development of new systems.
  • Document programming changes, problems, and resolutions for future reference and change control management.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as required or assigned.

  • Strong team orientation with excellent written and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new technology and logic quickly with minimal training.
