Job Description

Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for providing leadership and instruction to FPI and MPI team members and reports directly to the Responsible Level 3. The NDT Quality Specialist serves as the primary point of contact to answer questions, support day-to-day operations, and assist with inspections as needed. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and internal company policies, while promoting continuous improvement across all NDT activities. This position will also support Chemical Etch processes as needed and collaborate during audits and operations involving these disciplines.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide daily leadership and technical guidance to FPI/MPI personnel.
  • Serve as the go-to resource for inspection-related questions and support.
  • Lead training, qualification, and certification for FPI and MPI methods.
  • Maintain current Level 3 certification(s) in FPI and/or MPI; customer-specific certifications preferred.
  • Assist the Responsible Level 3 with NDT compliance, program management, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Review and coordinate daily plans with team members to ensure execution and timely delivery of inspection activities.
  • Perform NDT responsibilities and manage departmental oversight in the absence of the department manager or Level 3.
  • Maintain Quality and Safety Cardinal Rules.
  • Ensure compliance with the Calibration Program and verify serviceability of all NDT equipment and accessories.
  • Participate in and support internal system audits, annual personnel assessments, monthly risk-based audits, and customer, industrial, or corporate audits.
  • Create and revise FPI and MPI procedures, technique sheets, and work instructions.
  • Provide support to other PCC sites (e.g., Grafton) for FPI/MPI documentation and operations.
  • Investigate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and collaborate with Quality Engineering on NDT-related concessions.
  • Perform audits of subcontracted NDT services and vendors.
  • Serve as a Customer Source Representative when required.
  • Support business objectives through additional tasks assigned by department leadership.
  • Perform inspections as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities - Chemical Etch Support:

  • Assist in determining the sequence of Chemical Etch and manufacturing operations, ensuring proper integration with overall production flow.
  • Assume technical responsibility for the Chemical Etch System, including its equipment, documentation, and personnel performance.
  • Possess general knowledge of Chemical Etch processes and technologies used by Wyman-Gordon and its suppliers.
  • Support and participate in Chemical Etch-related activities during customer audits, visits, or other engagements as required by Wyman-Gordon.

Required Experience and Knowledge:

  • Minimum five years of experience in FPI/MPI methods, preferably in the aerospace industry.
  • Current Level 3 certification in FPI and/or MPI preferred.
  • General knowledge of Chemical Etch operations and their role in manufacturing/inspection processes.
  • Strong understanding of forged product manufacturing and raw material inspection.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage across multiple departments and customer interfaces.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple technical tasks in a fast-paced environment.
