Associate General Counsel - Contracts

Location: Hybrid within service area states of DE, PA, MD, OH, VA, NC, GA or FL with periodic travel as needed

Your role in our success:

The purpose of the Associate General Counsel - Contracts is to provide legal support services to Chesapeake Utilities Corporation and its affiliates (collectively, the "Company") relating to asset management, mergers & acquisitions, real estate transactions, special projects, and other initiatives.

What you'll be working on:



  • Negotiating and drafting contracts, including technology contracts, pipeline interconnection agreements, service agreements, franchise agreements, developer agreements, lease agreements, easement agreements, supply agreements, and customer agreements.
  • Researching and providing written and oral advice to, and representation for, the Company on matters principally pertaining to organic growth projects, energy delivery services, mergers & acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings, joint ventures, and real estate transactions.
  • Working across the organization and with due diligence teams to evaluate strategic opportunities.
  • Overseeing engagements and billings for external counsel services.
  • Periodic commuting to assigned Company office may be required as much as weekly. Travel to other Company offices may be required at least quarterly.
  • Participating in industry organizations such as the American Gas Association and developing/maintaining working relationships with members of such organizations to inform work being performed by the Company.
  • Staying informed of industry activity that may have an impact on the present and future operations of the Company or its employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Who you are:



  • Juris Doctorate
  • Ten (10) years of legal experience in law firm and/or in-house positions.
  • Current member in good standing of the Bar of Delaware, Maryland, Florida, or Ohio.
  • Working knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Company and the natural gas industry preferred.
  • Significant experience negotiating and drafting complex contracts.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills (both oral and written).
  • Exceptional analytical, judgment, and reasoning abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle numerous projects at the same time.
  • Innovative and creative thinking to foster solutions to meet the Company's needs.
