Proven to Perform. From the edges of space to the bottoms of ocean, our materials are proven to perform -- and so is our team. We're hiring high performers as proven as our products. Join us. Where Heat Meets Precision - Forge Your Future with ATI ATI transforms metal into mission-critical components that power aerospace, defense, energy, and medical innovation. As a Process Engineering Intern focused on Melt Process Engineering, you'll support the formulating, primary melting, and final melting of titanium, nickel, and specialty alloys-playing a direct role in how high-value materials are produced for high-performance products. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers and operators to improve throughput, reduce defects, and drive process efficiency on assets such as plasma cold hearth furnaces, vacuum arc remelt furnaces, and raw material control systems. What You'll Work On Internship projects may include:
- Analyzing process data (melt rate, vacuum level, furnace environment) to identify furnace uptime improvement opportunities.
- Supporting trials to improve raw materials weighout, reduce turnaround time, or evaluate equipment upgrades.
- Assisting in root cause analysis of melt defects, process anomalies, or chemistry deviations.
- Evaluating and improving standard work procedures, including material handling and furnace control systems.
- Participating in melting trials for new products or flow path qualifications.
What You'll Gain
- Hands-on exposure to aerospace-alloy melting operations, across multiple different melting technologies
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams including Technology, Operations, and Quality
- Experience with real-world production data, manufacturing process improvements, and metallurgical principles
- Mentorship from ATI engineers and leadership visibility
- Consideration for return internships or full-time rotational opportunities
Basic Qualifications
- BS. candidate in:
- Materials Science & Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Industrial, Chemical or Manufacturing Engineering
- GPA of 3.0+ (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong interest in melting and processing of metals
- Familiarity with:
- Excel, Python, or Minitab/JMP for data analysis
- Stress-strain behavior, microstructure-property relationships, and process modeling
- Ability to work in plant and shop-floor environments
We thrive when the expectations are great, and the barriers are high. We're solving the world's most difficult challenges through materials science.
Our advanced, integrated process technologies and proven performers give us a tremendous competitive advantage. When customers systems need to fly higher, dig deeper, stand stronger, and last longer -- anywhere on, above or below the earth -- ATI is proven to perform.
