Job Summary

The Toolmaker supports manufacturing and engineering departments by producing a variety of production and prototype components, fixtures, and tools. This role involves machining complex tooling, programming CNC equipment, fabricating specialty tools, and assisting in training shop employees. The Toolmaker plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality tooling and precision manufacturing to meet engineering and production needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Machine complex tooling and fixtures in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering
  • Create and proof CNC programs using Proto-Trak
  • Set up and operate manual machine shop equipment, including mills, lathes, drill presses, shears, and saws
  • Set up and run CNC lathes (2-axis) and CNC mills (2-axis) in prototype and production environments
  • Set up and operate surface grinding machines
  • Develop, fabricate, and sharpen various cutting and specialty tools
  • Inspect GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) features using standard and advanced inspection techniques
  • Perform cutting operations to complete production processes
  • Assist management in training shop employees on machining practices and company-specific procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

Required:

  • High mechanical aptitude
  • Proficiency in trigonometry
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Understanding of chip formation and metal cutting mechanics
  • Knowledge of ANSI/EIA RS-274 (G-code NC programs)
  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a toolmaker
  • Experience or formal education in design/drafting with emphasis on CAD
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance
  • Must be a U.S. person under ITAR regulations (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee)


Preferred:

  • Associate degree in a technical field


Education

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree in a technical field preferred


Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a toolmaker, including CNC programming, machining, and tool fabrication


Additional Job Details

  • Compliance with ITAR requirements is mandatory (U.S. person status required)
  • Local candidates preferred due to commuting requirements
