Position Overview
The Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) serves as the primary point of contact for patients, providing essential phlebotomy services and ensuring a positive patient experience. This role involves collecting high-quality blood specimens, preparing them for laboratory testing, and maintaining strict adherence to established practices, safety protocols, and confidentiality standards. The PSR II builds trust with patients by clearly explaining procedures and delivering accurate, safe, and skillful specimen collection. Assignments may include working in a physician's office, a patient service center, or other locations as business needs require.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform daily tasks accurately and on time under the supervision of the area supervisor.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional environment.
- Confidently perform forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing in accordance with established protocols.
- Verify patient demographic information and confirm patient signatures post-collection to ensure proper labeling.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with organizational standards.
- Demonstrate organizational commitment while fostering a positive image with patients, clients, colleagues, and the public.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly, respectfully, and effectively with patients and staff.
- Travel to multiple locations as assigned, sometimes with minimal notice, and adapt quickly to varied environments.
Job Requirements
- Ability to deliver accurate, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong phlebotomy skills, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, on-call assignments, and overtime.
- Commitment to organizational policies, including dress code, health and safety standards, and guiding principles.
- Reliable judgment and decision-making based on established procedures.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and a clean driving record (required for floaters).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.
- Strong customer focus, adaptability to change, and professional communication skills.
- Willingness to attend training at various locations based on trainer availability.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical training (e.g., medical assistant or paramedic) preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
Work Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections (required).
- At least two (2) years in a patient service center environment preferred.
- Customer service experience in retail or service environments preferred.
- Keyboarding and data entry proficiency required.
Additional Job Details
- Floaters must travel between multiple sites and arrive on time at their assigned location each day.
- Mileage reimbursement is available for floaters with a clean driving record.
