SUMMARY
The Category Management Specialist performs senior level work in the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of contract and vendor management. This position leads facilitating teams in relation to purchasing, developing service deliverables, vendor negotiations of complex agreements and assisting selection, benchmarking, partnering with stakeholders regarding performance monitoring, purchasing, and developing Request for Proposals in partnership with stakeholders, and negotiation of contracts as needed. This position will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to strategize, develop, and achieve goals set in business reviews for strategic vendors.
Shift: Days. Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
1. Plans and conducts analysis of financial operational, clinical or administrative projects in collaboration with management.
2. Identifies and secures supply sources and performs other category management activities involving the purchase, distribution, and analysis of present/future needs of materials, equipment, supplies and services.
3. Communicates recommendations based on analysis of spend patterns, identifying opportunities to reduce or eliminate cost and/or operational variance and advances strategies to capitalize on such opportunities and drive savings.
4. Analyzes and continually monitors emerging trends and marketplace developments and integrates changes into sourcing strategies. Facilitates the evaluation, trialing, introduction and adoption of new products and services.
5. Maximizes strategic partnerships with group purchasing organizations and local/regional hospital partners.
6. Leads and develops strategy used in contract negotiation to achieve savings on behalf of CHCO.
7. Engages internal and external stakeholders as needed to achieve optimal outcome on behalf of CHCO.
8. Facilitates and coordinates business reviews of contractual performance of both parties to ensure compliance with terms and to identify conflicts or changes requiring resolution at contract renewal.
9. Accountable for onboarding new vendors following CHCO policies.
10. Provides high-level customer service and builds strategic relationships maintaining a positive working relationship with internal customers, and other stakeholders to obtain cooperation and support during negotiations and future business reviews.
11. Accountable for developing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Information (RFI) in partnership with stakeholders or project managers.
12. Partners closely with Contract Administrators when handing off contracts as needed for finalization within the contract database system.
13. Ensures contracts they negotiate follow CHCO policies and procedures and are uploaded into contract database.
14. Fosters a professional and team-oriented environment.
15. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
SCOPE AND LEVEL
- Guidelines: Guidelines are generally but not always clearly applicable, requiring the employee to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guideline, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations, and recommend alternative actions in situations without precedent.
- Complexity: Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.
- Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed.
- Communications: Contacts with team members, clients or the public where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.
- Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field is required.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of category management, contract administration and/or purchasing experience.
- Equivalency: In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, one year of related professional experience will serve as an equivalency to one year of education.
Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $88,253.00 to $132,379.50
