DESCRIPTION
  • Under supervison, this position is responsible for the programming, operation, and maintenance of all hardware and software including Wonderware, Rockwell RS Logic-5 & 500, RS Linx, GE-Faunc VersaPro, Intellution, Kepware, Ion Enterprise & Vista, and Excel and Access.
  • Under supervision, this position is responsible for the programming, operation, and maintenance of all subnetworks, network hardware and network connections that allow the Central Utility Plant to communicate to all equipment necessary to properly function as a CoGen plant.
  • Work with and program in the following languages: Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Server 20XX, Visual Basic, HVAC Pro, GX 9100 Ladder Logic, M-Tools & M5 Graphics, Intellution & Kepware, I - Historian, Rockwell RSLogic 5,500 and RSLinx, Versa Pro, TCP/IP Internet Protocol, NetBUI, ArcNet, Windows variants (DOS, NT 98 & XP).
  • Perform all system global programming, uploads and downloads and implements all software and hardware upgrades for the Wonderware SCADA system, BOP system, Power Monitoring and CUP data gathering computers and communications.
  • Archive data from all global programming, graphics, scheduling, historical files, trend files, totalization files, alarm files and operator transaction files. Maintain system-wide security and password protection for the Wonderware SCADA system, BOP system, Power Monitoring System and CUP data gathering systems.
  • Under supervison, this position is responsible for the programming, operation, and maintenance of all hardware and software related to the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System.
  • Will support annual testing on all APCD monitored equipment, including boilers and gas turbines.
  • Provide technical support to CUP and campus personnel and outside contractors when they encounter problems with the existing Wonderware SCADA system and all controls devices in the Central Utility Plant, including VFDs, starters, IO modules, communications modules, control instrumentation devices and HMIs.
  • Responsible for the programming, operation, repair or replacement and preventative maintenance of all controls devices and power generation instrumentation, control systems and electrical equipment in the Central Utility Plant both locally and at remote plant sites.
  • Assist in directing contracted vendors and resolving questions regarding services performed.
  • This is a non-watch standing position.
  • Effectively communicates orally, in writing and electronically.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures and practices on safety and operation instructions.
  • Comply with rules and regulations applicable to building codes.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Thorough journey-level knowledge and experience of Central Utility and Cogeneration Plant systems, pumps, piping, electronic and pneumatic controls; i.e. dead band, plant steam systems, high temperature hot water systems, compressed air systems, refrigeration, air conditioning compressors and controls, water systems and other related controls and systems.
  • Knowledge of test performed for systems operations with ability to determine repair needs and effectively communicate them to supervisor. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot operational problems and make necessary adjustments or repairs.
  • Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting blueprints and system diagrams. Substantial knowledge and understanding of engineering fundamentals with respect to systems and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing or electronically, and work effectively in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.
  • Experience in a Central Utility Plant, Combined Cycle or Cogeneration Power Plant or relatedindustrial environment. Includes safety practices, electrical inspection procedures, basic chemistry principles, power plant processes, theories and principles of power plant operations.
  • Strong experience and understanding of electrical and electronic principles.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Some experience tuning and troubleshooting GE Fanuc and Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's).
  • Experience with electrical and instrumentation aptitude involving the operation and ormaintenance of industrial equipment, preferably of the type used in a Cogeneration Power Plant.
  • Comprehensive experience; working knowledge of power plant equipment operation.
  • Experience using computer skills for data analysis, including MS Office products, email, and Internet.
  • Demonstrated experience in Distributed Control Systems (DCS) tuning; control loop troubleshooting and design.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical process drawings and P&ID's.
  • Excellent communication skills and interaction with coworkers, supervisors and contractors. Teamwork is a must.
  • Ability to work alone or with help to diagnose and correct electrical, instrumentation and controls problems.
  • Experience documenting processes including; work orders reports & work history, cost tracking, parts usage, labor costs and job procedures.
  • Experience with object oriented programming of SCADA/DCS, including either writing or modifying programs.
  • Understand control loops and relay logic. Experience with tuning PID and control loops.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Physical ability to perform essential job functions with ability to move through limited access spaces and cover distances on foot to widely separated work sites.
  • May be assigned overtime, alternate shift, weekend or emergency call back hours as necessary. DOJ/FBI Background check and clearance required prior to hire.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and/or a valid California Class C Driver License to operate UC vehicles and must participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $120,603 - $120,603 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $57.76 - $57.76

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
