THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is looking for a Wildlife Management Program Chief to lead our Wildlife Diversity Division within the Bureau of Wildlife Management. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this Wildlife Management Program Chief position, you will oversee statewide wildlife research and conservation programs through subordinate wildlife sections specializing in endangered and nongame birds, endangered and nongame mammals, and wildlife planning and grants administration. Your responsibilities will involve supervising the work of professional and technical staff, wildlife focused duties, and interdepartmental collaborations. These include wildlife management activities focused on research, population monitoring, species recovery and management planning, database development and management, and impact assessments. Your expertise will be essential for advising the Director on a variety of wildlife technical issues and representing the bureau and agency in technical committees, task forces, and presentations to the public and agency personnel on various species management and conservation programs.

You will also oversee and participate in conservation planning, internal communications and external outreach, and fiscal management to benefit more than 400 species of wild birds and mammals in the Commonwealth. Under the Bureau Director's guidance, you will help facilitate the implementation of the agency's strategic plan, the Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan, and national coordination efforts. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. Telework is not permitted during the initial six-month probationary period; eligibility may be granted upon its successful completion. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years experience as a Wildlife Biologist 3 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Five years of experience in the development and evaluation of a wildlife management program that includes two years of supervisory experience; and a master's degree in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, Wildlife Ecology, Wildlife Science, or a closely related wildlife science degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes two years of experience supervising staff responsible for the development and evaluation of a wildlife management program.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
