ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

General Overview of Position:

The Health Room Aide (HRA) in the Muskego-Norway School District (MNS) is assigned to staff one of the school health rooms. The HRA works with minimal supervision, but with the guidance and direction of the District Nurse, to provide direct care to students. The HRA is also responsible for: maintaining the health room environment; documenting care provided and document management; communicating to staff, students, families, and the public; using a variety of medical equipment; providing basic emergency care; using a variety of information technology platforms; assisting the District Nurse with student Individualized Health Plans; and a variety of other specific responsibilities.

Muskego-Norway School District Notice:

Must be able to work effectively and cooperatively with students, staff, and parents, and possess positive public communication skills and written skills. While supervising and managing the Health Room, will need to demonstrate excellent written, oral, organizational, and decision-making skills. Other duties, as assigned by the administrator.

Qualifications

1. High School diploma or equivalent.

2. CPR/AED/ First Aid certified or willing to become certified

3. Ability to get along with others and work as a team

4. Ability to communicate professionally

5. Use proper judgement

6. Manage time effectively

7. Demonstrate flexibility

8. Competency with a variety of general office equipment

9. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student and family information

10. Work independently with minimal direct supervision, under the guidance and direction of the District Nurse

11. Healthcare experience such as Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant preferred.

12. Must have a valid driver's license.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following. Specialized training will be provided as needed.

1. Provide compassionate care to ill and injured students, administer medication; gather student health assessment data such as health history and vital signs.

2. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment in the school health office; maintain the safe and organized storage of student medication and medical equipment.

3. Appropriately and professionally document student visits to the school health room including complaints, observations, and interventions; scan and upload health-related documents.

4. Provide professional, courteous, and timely verbal and written communication with staff, students, families, and the public using various information and communication platforms.

5. Competently use a variety of medical equipment such as assessment equipment (thermometer, blood pressure monitor and pulse oximeter), diabetic equipment (insulin pumps, continuous glucose

monitors, glucometers), and a variety of personal protection equipment.

6. Provide basic emergency care as a member of the Medical Alert Team.

7. Obtain and maintain competency in information technology platforms such as Infinite Campus and Google Suite.

8. Assist the District Nurse with the development, administration, and communication of Individualized Health Plans.

9. Other Specific Responsibilities

a. Field Trips - preparation of student medical needs during field trips.

b. Immunizations - compliance, management, and reporting of student immunization status.

c. Screening - vision, hearing, and other student health screenings.

d. Coworker coverage - work at other school health rooms as needed to cover HRA absences.

10. Maintain compliance with mandatory training.
