Job Summary
The VDC Designer III is responsible for preparing and maintaining detailed design drawings, schematics, and specifications using advanced computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering (CAE) software. This role works closely with engineers and other design professionals to resolve complex design issues and develop accurate 2D and 3D models of mechanical systems. The position involves creating, modifying, and managing part and assembly drawings based on technical sketches, plans, and verbal or written instructions. Additionally, the VDC Designer III supports the development and enforcement of drafting standards and procedures, and may assist in evaluating and recommending CAD/CAE hardware and software solutions to enhance design capabilities and project delivery.
Essential Duties
* Generates construction and fabrication drawings for manufacturing using CADD, AutoCAD and Revit systems for a variety of large complex commercial and industrial construction projects. * Provides onsite support for field personnel, when needed, and interfaces with other team leaders, the group managers, project managers, the shop fabrication managers and field supervisors. Coordinates overall schedules, including BIM logs, with department managers, project managers, shop supervision and field supervision. * Ensure optimization of the model to drive DfMA. Work with project leadership to maximize prefabrication opportunities that leverage offsite manufacturing and create material management efficiencies. * Scrum Master ; facilitates and ensures the Scrum team follows the agile processes that they agreed to follow. Skillfully removes obstacles and distractions that may impede the team from meeting goals. Acts as a liaison between the Scrum team and people or teams outside the Scrum team. Plans, organizes and communicates Sprint plans bi-weekly or as needed. * Participates in Handover/BIM Kickoff meetings to facilitate in listing out services/deliverables and understanding the scope, budget and timeline of projects. Collects and re-distributes specification summary and own the process of job profiles setup. * Reviews engineering and contractual documents and coordinates the architectural and structural documents with other members of the project team to ensure accuracy and completeness. Reviews equipment submittal documents for accuracy and completeness. * Coordinates draft construction drawings with other trades to ensure routings and clearances are understood and no obstructions exist. Attend Weekly BIM meetings and interact with GC and other Subs * Performs site surveys and field measurement work as needed to support the conceptual and design drawing efforts. * Makes final checks and reviews trade drawings prior to fabrication release. Provides completed and complex construction drawings to the shop for parts manufacturing and to job site management to use in the construction and installation of material and equipment. Reviews work from coordinators assigned to the project for timely completion and drawing quality. Monitors work in progress and reviews completed work to ensure compliance with department standards and ensures a high standard of drawing quality. * Reviews contractual documents and construction drawings for apparent conflicts with architectural and structural documents and ensures compliance with local code requirements. Identifies each of the issues that surfaces during the review and brings it to the attention of the project management for clarification and resolution through the Request For Information (RFI) process. * Manages document control during the detailing process and interprets various discrepancies and conflicts within the contractual documents. Approves Requests for Information (RFI's) and provides input for * Coordination Change Orders (CCO's) for delivery to project managers. * Monitors cost and schedule throughout the project in order to keep the coordination effort as closely aligned with the project estimate as possible. Advises appropriate project management staff of any potential overruns including work required or requested for the project which is outside of the baseline scope of work. * Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED is required. Associate's Degree in Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field is preferred. 5-7 years. Should have basic understanding of current design software such as AutoDesk. Working knowledge of drawing production and standard construction techniques and principles. Excellent organizational and leadership skills. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and through written communication Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines. Solves complex problems. Works independently, receives minimal guidance. May lead projects or project steps within a broader project or may have accountability for on-going activities or objectives. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
