Laboratory Supervisor
As the Laboratory Supervisor you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the activities of your respective laboratory shift in providing analytical services to support plant operations.

Successful candidates will be proficient in Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) lab operations, Gas Chromatography (GC) interpretation and/or Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) quantification with the ability to effectively teach and lead a laboratory team to provide exceptional services to operations and our customers.

Essential Functions & Requirements:



  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
  • Stays informed of and practiced in location-specific safety procedures and trains laboratory technicians on such practices; completes daily assessments and implements any required corrective actions
  • Analyzes materials to determine waste characteristics and profiles; maintains the ability to proficiently perform all laboratory duties within the scope of their team/shift
  • Ensures that all data provided by the laboratory meets quality and productivity requirements and compiles data for required reporting
  • Performs the interpretation of analytical results on inbound and processed materials
  • Makes determinations regarding the disposition, holding, and release of materials analyzed
  • Provides daily updates to Laboratory Manager on personnel, equipment, production or quality issues
  • Maintains responsibility for the overall performance of the laboratory shift including but not limited to production targets, budget requirements, continuous coverage of all positions, team stability and cross-functional partnerships, quality issues including audits, and laboratory appearance daily and during internal/external tours
  • Plans and schedules the workflow of the respective laboratory shift and provides leadership support to ensure objectives are achieved
  • Identifies and coordinates the training and development of laboratory personnel to provide continuous learning and talent development opportunities
  • Completes ongoing evaluations of laboratory personnel and processes and provides detailed recommendations on personnel adjustments, procedure or equipment Modifications and quality functions
  • Communicates cross-functionally with Operations, Approvals, and Sales personnel as needed
  • Maintains the flexibility and willingness to assist other laboratory shifts as needed
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization


Education:



  • High school diploma or equivalent and some college coursework (required)
  • Associates degree or higher in a science related field (preferred)


Experience:



  • 3+ years of experience in a laboratory environment (required)
  • Knowledge of and experience working with one or more areas of analytical chemistry (required); GC-ECD and/or ICP-OES (preferred)
  • Knowledge of and experience with instrument troubleshooting and maintenance related to analyses performed by the laboratory (required)


Competencies:



  • Hands-on approach to effectively complete testing, equipment maintenance and training
  • Strong communication skills to effectively and timely communicate details of questionable or hazardous materials to appropriate authorities, respond to incidents, and train other laboratory personnel
  • Chemical knowledge including characteristics, reactions and hazards of substances encountered in the hazardous waste industry
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Working knowledge of Laboratory Information Management (LIM) systems
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Detailed understanding of regulatory requirements and familiarity with industry trends
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot and conduct maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Regular and predictable attendance to perform the functions and requirements of this role
