Position Title: PT Crossing GuardCompensation: $11.65 - 12.58Department: Burris Laboratory School_C (Abigail ComberStart Date: 10/13/2025About this opportunity: Burris Laboratory School was established to provide a stellar K-12 educational environment in which pre-service teachers from Ball State University observe and provide learning opportunities for students with highly effective teachers and school counselors using innovative instructional strategies aligned with Indiana standards.This position will perform crossing guard duties required for the safety of Burris Laboratory school students. Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship. What you'll do and what you'll bring: Position Function: Under supervision, perform crossing guard duties required for the safety of Burris Laboratory school students. Ensure the safe and orderly crossing of children and other pedestrians at signed crossing intersections near school. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of a police officer or patrol supervisor, and involves some disagreeable aspects, light physical effort, and exposure to inclement weather. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Supervise the crossing of children and other pedestrians at designated crossing locations near assigned school, using traffic control devices and appropriate hand signals, and/or traffic equipment. 2. Demonstrate safe crossing habits for children and prohibits children from committing unsafe practices with regard to pedestrian safety. Ensure student safety by stopping traffic at appropriate intervals. 3. Monitor traffic flow; report unusual or adverse traffic conditions which would have an effect on pedestrian safety. 4. Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. 5. Perform other related duties as assigned. 6. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working with children is desired. Previous outside employment in all weather conditions. Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, University policies, procedures and communications. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty. You must be 18 years or older.
