Job Title: Laboratory Sciences Professional (Intermediate - Senior Level)

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly energetic, self-motivated individual to join the laboratory of Dr. Moumita Ghosh, PhD, as a full-time Research Services Laboratory Sciences Professional in the Pulmonary Division on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.

Research in the Ghosh lab focuses on the study of the role of lung tissue stem/progenitor cells in COPD and lung cancer. We are interested in understanding the functional changes in normal repair mechanisms of the lung before development of chronic lung diseases or during carcinogenesis. We use primary cells obtained from patient samples, mouse models and tissue culture techniques and omics approaches to address these questions. The person hired into this position will participate in processing human biopsies and brushings to grow progenitor cells, Air-liquid interface cultures, drug treatment study, histological analysis, immunostaining, and microscopy. Work will also require maintaining, genotyping, and handling of wild type and genetically engineered mouse strains. Exposures will include inhaled challenges to allergens, particulates, smoke, microbes/microbial products, and potential therapeutics. This person will also work with Dr. Ghosh to maintain lab protocols and patient-related database.

Applicants should be highly motivated individuals with a bachelor's degree in biology, and experience in mammalian cell culture, handling mice, microscopy, histology, and flow cytometry. The ideal candidate needs to be an organized person with strong work ethic who can work independently as well as a part of the group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight related to supply orders and to protocols related to animal care (IACUC), biosafety (IBC), and human-study related (IRB).

  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results.

  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas.

  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.

  • Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

    • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

  • One (1) year professional level research experience.

Senior Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

    • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

  • Two (2) years professional level research experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

  • Three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Intermediate Level: $50,357 - $64,054

Senior Level: $54,440 - $69,248

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
