JOB SUMMARY: The Wedger is responsible for using compressed air or hydraulic pressure to make a complete break or separation of the rock in either block or loaf form. The Wedger will also assist and learn in other quarry functions when not wedging. This includes, but is not limited to, learning how to run quarry wire saws, quarry drills, and other mobile equipment. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: Evaluate the current stability of the block or ledge Determine what the probable movement of the pieces will be after the splitting process Develop an appropriate fall protection plan Place wedges and half-rounds into drilled holes as has been previously successful Be aware of trip hazards Remove wedges from split and store them for the next usage Assist other team members with their functions and cross train on all job tasks related to the quarry SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & PHYSICAL CONDITIONS This position requires traversing of rough terrain. Need to climb ladders, steps, or other elevated platforms Must be able to lift 60lbs Frequent bending 100% of time spent outdoors. Quarry conditions can vary from extreme summer heat to below zero cold, wind, and rain.
