Department: Environmental and Natural Resources Division (ENRD), Directorate of Public Works

About the Role

DAWSON is seeking an Environmental Specialist to provide program support for pollution prevention, hazardous materials management, and lead paint assessments at Fort Huachuca. This role will help ensure compliance with Army, federal, and state environmental regulations while supporting sustainability and safe installation operations.

What You'll Do




  • Pollution Prevention Program Support




    • Develop, implement, and track pollution prevention initiatives.



    • Maintain records of operations, materials, and waste streams.



    • Support inspections and compliance reviews related to pollution prevention activities.





  • Hazardous Materials Management




    • Assist in hazardous material tracking, storage, and inventory management.



    • Support compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Army standards.



    • Provide technical assistance to installation personnel on safe handling and use of hazardous materials.





  • Lead Paint Inspections & Assessments




    • Conduct inspections and risk assessments of facilities for lead-based paint hazards.



    • Document findings, maintain inspection records, and prepare professional-quality assessment reports.



    • Support mitigation planning and compliance with health and safety regulations.





  • Regulatory & Program Compliance




    • Support regulatory reporting and documentation requirements.



    • Assist with environmental audits, inspections, and corrective action tracking.



    • Provide input to Installation Sustainability and Safety Programs.






What We're Looking For




  • Education:




    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Engineering, or related field.





  • Experience:




    • Experience in hazardous materials management and/or pollution prevention programs.



    • Familiarity with environmental regulations including RCRA, EPA lead-based paint standards, and Army environmental programs.



    • Experience in conducting inspections, risk assessments, and technical reporting.





  • Skills & Competencies:




    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; database management experience preferred.



    • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.



    • Ability to interpret and apply federal and state environmental regulations.



    • Comfortable conducting inspections in industrial and facility settings.






Additional Requirements




  • U.S. Citizenship required; must be able to meet Army installation security requirements.



  • Certification in lead-based paint inspection or risk assessment (EPA/HUD) highly preferred.



  • Ability to perform fieldwork in varied environmental and facility conditions.
