About the Role

DAWSON is seeking a qualified Historic Architect to support Fort Huachuca's Cultural Resources Program. This position will focus on the identification, evaluation, and documentation of historic architectural resources, ensuring compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and other federal regulations. The role will also provide project review, technical advice, and support long-term cultural resource management.

    Identify, evaluate, and document historic buildings, structures, and landscapes.

    Assess historic significance and condition for National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility.

    Conduct architectural surveys and prepare defensible documentation.

  Project Review & Compliance

    Review proposed projects for compliance with Section 106 of NHPA and related laws.

    Provide technical advice on design, treatment, and preservation strategies.

    Recommend avoidance, minimization, or mitigation measures for adverse effects.

  Technical Support & Reporting

  
  
  
  
  • 
    

    Prepare detailed architectural reports, compliance documentation, and technical recommendations.

    Maintain cultural resource and architectural databases, drawings, and records.

    Support Environmental and Natural Resources Division staff in integrating historic preservation into planning and development.

  Stakeholder Coordination

    Assist with consultation and coordination with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), Tribal representatives, and other stakeholders.

    Support outreach, training, and education efforts related to historic preservation.

    
    
  
  
  
  

What We're Looking For

  Education:

  
  
  
  
  • 
    

    Master's degree in Architecture, Historic Preservation, Architectural History, or closely related field.

    
    
  
  
  
  
• 
  

  Experience:

  
  
  
  
  • 
    

    2-3 years of professional experience in historic architecture, preservation planning, or cultural resource compliance.

    
    
  • 
    

    Demonstrated knowledge of NHPA, Secretary of the Interior's Standards, and related regulations.

    
    
  • 
    

    Experience preparing NRHP evaluations and architectural documentation.

    Proficiency in CAD, GIS, and architectural documentation software.

    Strong technical writing and reporting skills.

Additional Requirements

  Must be able to perform site inspections and architectural assessments in varied field conditions.

  U.S. Citizenship required; must be able to meet Army installation security requirements.

  Familiarity with military installations and Southwest U.S. historic architecture strongly preferred.
